Only 16

Hi Christ i was once only 16, too! Actually when I was firsd told I had KC it was easy to find things that I couldn't do. I know how hard it is when you have your heart set on a career in the police or the armed forces to have the opportunity taken from you. In time you will find more and more thing...

Comfortable contact lens

Hi I wore RGP lenses for years, until I really couldn't bear to have them in my eyes any longer. I guess everybody with KC goes through that experience at one point or another. They found that softlenses were no good for me as they were pushed out of shape by my cones and so would not provide the so...

Best Surgeon

Hello Brent Life is different in the UK where we still do not have an open market in medicine. However, in the United States I reckon your best first point of call would be your Family's General Medical Practitioner. Check the hospitals in your area. You have good teaching hospitals in Boston; your ...

How Long?

Hello Shaz Good to see you. don't know how long they last. I had my first one done in December 03, and had been hoping that would do my right eye for the rest of my life, but maybe that's too much to ask. The question seems to be like a piece of string ... the answer is it varies! I'd be interested ...

The Graft

Hello Robert Since I had my first graft in December last year I have lived with virtually no pain in my graft eye. This compares with fairly constant paid before surgery! This week, they are going to start taking my stitches out. I have 16 and the first two are coming out on Thursday afternoon. Ever...

Diet Coke

An over enthusiastic adoption of the "genetics theory" is not without its problems ... It may lead to the children or other relatives of KC sufferers finding it hard to obtain various sorts of insurance (including Mortgage Protection). It is also far from substantiated. If there were a genetic cause...

Health schemes for KC patients?

Dave

Good idea. Why not post a question and see how many folk agree. If you get a lot of support then the KC group would know about the elvel of support any may be persuaded to make contact with underwriters to see how things go.

Diet Coke

I have found this exchange profoundly interesting, although I gue4ss that the culprit (if culprit it be) is the aspartame rather than the Coke. Like at least one other contributor I had already been diagnosed with KC before I ever tasted any diet soda, and although I drink very little soda pop even ...
