Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

To be honest, I'm not convinced that cancer is automatically a disability either. Well according to the legal rules of play Grant, the Equality Act, cancer becomes a disability upon diagnosis, as it is a also a debilitating progressive disease. So why is KC treated differently Grant? when you becom...

Double vision post graft

No major problems - rejection/infection (just a bit of a droopy eyelid feeling) so far with my graft which was done on 5 November however on Monday I experienced double vision after 5 hours of interrogation by the Judge at a Preliminary Tribunal hearing for unfair dismissal. Have any KC graftees exp...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

Thats the problem we have. Some people can cope and say they are not disadvantaged. Then theres the others who do have problems even when corrected. As long as we have this divide then the government and other bodies will always side with the non disadvantaged. What people need to start realising i...

Re: Tribunal awards 2nd highest amount to Police Officer wit

This case is now quite dated, 2008 and would have fallen under the Disability Discrimination Act. I am surprised this case as not been identified already on this forum. It would be interesting to know how many KCers have been dismissed at work, via Tribunal cases. Does our charity have any data? I a...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

Personally, the Snellen definition when wearing glasses/lenses seems like a sensible and pragmatic definition of when sight loss becomes a disability. Thanks for the information/references Grant. I'm focused on the objective measure because then we all know were the partial sight threshold stands. ...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

Anne you have not objectively answered my question. Another tough key question - so why do people diagnosed with Cancer, HIV, and MS get classified as disabled and not keratoconics? I suspect its most likely due to a high level of representation/campaigning/lobbying and support from their registered...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

Is there anyone able and willing to address the tough key question that I have previously raised on this thread:-

In relation to the Equality Act what is the threshold level of vision for the definition of "partial sight" ?

Re: Eyelid drooping

Good luck Laura with your surgeon and let us know the feedback.

I asked my GP about the steroids and he confirmed that the negative effect is to weaken muscles when taken internally but was not sure of effect if applied by drops in the eye.

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

is defined as the number of lines a person can read on the Snellen chart WITH any glasses or contact lenses, Please could you inform us what the specific objective measured (not subjective) definitive level of "partial sight" is For many people with KC, the condition stays mild or stabili...
