Re: Protein deposits - how do you prevent them?
Rosemary, Thank you for your thoughts. I will admit to using washing-up liquid on my PMMA lenses in the late 70’s and early 80’s, it was the only way to get them clean. But then in those days we were only told to change our soaking solution once a week. Since I’ve had my RGP lenses I’ve never really...

Re: New Information
Hi Libby, I'm also very short-sighted. But how much of that is 'normal' short sight (due to a longer eye) and how much is due to a distorted cornea I don't know. Neither am I sure how bad my KC is. With glasses my right eye can barely make out the top line, my left eye can see the 6/6 line looking t...

Protein deposits - how do you prevent them?
I went for a check up last week and my contact lenses (corneal RGPs) were found to be covered in protein deposits. Although I use Boston cleaning solution, and Amiclair protein remover tablets once a week, they were still covered in deposits. I've only had this problem in the last couple of years; p...

Re: First post plus a question or two
Hi Grant, The only place that I have found that doesn't charge extra for thinner lenses is ASDA. Their designer frames are currently £50 each, or two pairs for £90 and this includes thinner lenses if the prescription requires it. Varifocal is an extra £40 per frame. Their webstates ''The single visi...

Re: Lisa just diagnosed
Hi Lisa, I'll try to answer you questions: - How long does it take to get lenses fitted at moorfields? The appointment to fit the lenses could be quite a long one as they may try several types of lenses. Also you may be asked to sit in the waiting room wearing the lenses for half an hour or so to se...

Re: Piggy Backing
Hi Rosemary, Thank you for your detailed account of piggy backing. This will help me ask sensible questions at my next appointment in the New Year. Hi Ladyburd, I'm 53 and I've been wearing contact lenses since I was 17. I originally wore the old PMMA corneal lenses and for the last 21 years corneal...

Re: Piggy Backing
Hi Ladyburd, I am very pleased with vision I'm getting with my new lenses, especially the right lens which is giving me better vision than I have had in that eye for years. But on day 17 the right lens became most uncomfortable. After cleaning it four times in four hours I gave up and reverted to my...

Re: Piggy Backing
Unfortunately the new RGPs didn't work. The vision in both lens was no better than previous lenses and the left one was too tight and difficult to remove. Another type of corneal RGPs has been ordered and I may be piggy backing these. For me the aim is to improve the vision rather than comfort as th...

Re: Is a prsecription the same....
Hi Richrapid, I would expect the prescriptions to be different. Or at least mine are. A contact lens prescription includes not only the power but also the diameter and the base curve of the lens. A soft lens typically has a diameter of 14 mm and a base curve of 8.7 and, in general, it is only the po...
