I don't have anything really useful to add. GrandPa Clanger (geez I love that name!♥ ) is spot on. I just thought I'd pop in and say hello and hope you get it soted out soon.
While you waiting to se someone you could try using Systane if you can get it. Systane is a good eye lubricant.

Ow Ow Ow!!!!!! You poor thing! I have been to A&E by ambulance a couple of times in extreme pain so I could really identify. Isn't it amazing how much one little old eye can hurt!
