Re: 24 hrs to go

One week on

Jackie's eye continues to improve and the blood clot is begining to break up. She still has no vision in that eye which is worrying her but it is early days and I suspect she will not see any better till all the blood clot has gone.

Traditional food on the cheap

My neighbour has the same attitude to traditional northern food that I have and today brought me two treats from our butcher who is trying to re-introduce folks to what was eaten in the so called bad old days. The first treat is a whole ox tongue (£2.50). OK so you have to put it in the slow cooker ...

Re: 24 hrs to go

Day 6 Post op Today we are hoping that with all jobs done, fridge etc stocked up and good weather forecast we can just chill out and plant a few seeds. Yesterday there was a cold wind and by tea time Jackie's eye was rather sore and dry. The drops fixed that and I am hoping the early night that foll...

How long did you wait for an eye?

Hi Folks As you all know, my wife had a corneal graft last week. It was 16 months and 4 days after being put on the waiting list. This morning St James Hospital here in Leeds told me the current waiting list is 15 to 18 months. Could I ask how long you waited for an eye to be available? When you rep...

Re: 24 hrs to go

Day 5 post op Seen in clinic by Registrar, Bandage contact lens removed. Everything OK, bleeding quite normal for such a big graft (they removed the old graft plus all the remaining cornea to get rid of the diseased tissue). Back to hospital in 4/52 and continue with drops every 2 hrs. Jackie says h...

Re: 24 hrs to go

Day three post op. Eye very bloodshot and sore but not as painful as day one. Drops sting like mad but even they are being tolerated a bit better. I am worried about the almost totalblood shot look (we never had any of this with the other two grafts) but being bank holiday there is no-one available ...

Re: 24 hrs to go

Op over and Jackie home at tea time yestreday. Eye very sore but I soon had her tucked up in bed full of pain killers and several mugs of tea (Why don't hospitals realise that folks want a mug of tea after an op not a timble full?). Eye stuck shut this morning but a warm flannel will soon fix that t...

Re: Eye Hospitals in the UK

Has anyone on the forum had any experience of using the PEARS scheme in Wales? If you have, can they spot things like a graft threatening rejection?

24 hrs to go

Tomorrow my wife has the graft in her left eye replaced. I'm sorry to say that it was faulty from the start but she has persevered with it for 13 yrs, had it surgically tweaked twice and lasered all to no avail. It has been wildly unstable for the past few years and has ended up with the astigmatism...

Re: Eye Hospitals in the UK

Hi Lea We were there on Wednesday of last week for a 3pm appointment. I have to get there about 2pm to make sure I can get a place on the disabled car park Just occasionally I get a place straight away but Wednesday was typical and I had to queue for 25 mins. Once in the clinic we had the routine ey...
