Re: decision time !! need advice
Gary, Just a thought. You say that you are sick of wearing RGPs, but have you been able to try any other types of lenses? I was having problems with my right lens, although a good fit, it would become intolerable after three weeks' wear. I'm now piggy backing the RGP with a soft lens underneath and ...

Re: Do you shower with contacts?
Just looked at the Patient Information leaflet that came with my latest RGP. It states 'Never use tap water' and 'Never swim in your lenses'. There is nothing about showering. I normally shower before I put my lenses in as I generally get better wear times if I don't put my lenses in as soon as I wa...

Re: UK Vision Strategy Initiative - your input needed
Lynn, Yes, I did think that my third point was probably 'out of scope' for this particular initiative. However with regard to spectacle point I'd like to add one further point. I've just read your post on another thread about the time taken to adjust to a new prescription. I think that it would be u...

Re: UK Vision Strategy Initiative - your input needed
OK I don’t think that this answers the questions on the survey but my thoughts are: 1 Acknowledgement that there is such a condition as ‘part time visual impairment’ or ‘variable vision’. I think that we’ve all been asked ‘Why don’t you just wear glasses?’ when we are having contact lenses problems....

Re: going private
I'd say 'maybe'. What is important is seeing someone who is highly experienced and has access to enough different types of contact lenses to find the ones that will work for you. A few months ago I was looking for a particular protein remover and called in at a local opticians to see if they stocked...

Re: RGP lenses, irritation and weeping eye!
Hi Elvenmunky, There is an article about Good Eye Days, Bad Eye Days on this site which you might find helpful. You can find it at: http://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/expert_contributions/bs/good_eye_day_bad_eye_day.html Have you spotted any trigger that is causing your bad eye days? I know that if...

Re: Numbness & pins and needles with lens wear
Lynn, In my case this is definitely associated with lens wear. The offending lens (lens B) was comfortable when I first got it last November; after two and half weeks wear it started to become uncomfortable - thought I'd got something behind it and scratched the cornea. Wore an old Rose K lens (lens...

Re: Keratoconus and Presbyopia
Hi Lynn, I really didn't think getting a pair of readers was going to be so complicated! The eye test I had last week was a standard eye test which I didn't pay for as my glasses prescription is for complex lenses. ( sph + cyl -11.25 plus the ADDs for close vision). I commented that I probably didn'...

Re: Keratoconus and Presbyopia
I wouldn't exactly call it a turf war but I was surprised by his reluctance to prescribe reading glasses; especially as I had mentioned this to the receptionist when I booked the appointment. I really can't see the hospital being upset about it either - the hospital optometrist at my last appointmen...

Re: Numbness & pins and needles with lens wear
No you are not going mad! How long have you had the problem? Is it only with the latest lenses or have you had the problem before? I have a lens for my right eye that gives the eye very good vision but after a few weeks' wear it becomes annoying and the eye begins to ache and there is feeling of num...
