Re: Success rates of corneal transplants in the UK

I suspect that nobody knows the answers to all of your questions. That's why your consultant couldn't tell you. Plus it is really complicated as driving standard means using both eyes, and most KCs are not affected the same in each eye. Remember though that the point of a graft is to make the vision...

Re: Moderator in spirit?

Thanks for pointing this out. Andrew sadly passed away just a week after we lost our 5 year old daughter, and I had no interest in maintaining the forum at that point. I've now removed Andrew's name as moderator, but of course retained his 7000+ posts.

Re: Newsletter on line

I'd love to put the newsletters on line.

We do have plans to do this, and to revamp the website to allow more people to update it; but personal circumstances have got in the way recently. Hopefully in the new year.

In the mean time, I'll put some recent newsletters online now.

Re: Reasonable adjustments post graft?

Hi Shelley, We have a similar policy to sickness at my work, but sick days relating to a DDA-related disability don't count. And the only people who can confirm that your disability is covered by the DDA is indeed occupational health. Thankfully though, my HR were very keen to get me to OH, and sick...

BBC news article

An article on the BBC News magazine is all about cornea transplants

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35410148

It mentions KC, and that the Bristol eye bank has a shortage of corneas, but it doesn't know how many!

Re: Lucy Smith

Thanks all. Lucy will be missed by everyone who knew her. We had a funeral and a thanksgiving service on Wednesday for her, but we are still waiting to find out how she died.

Andrew MacLean, RIP

All, I'm sorry to have to announce that Andrew MacLean , forum stalwart, Church of Scotland Minister and genial contributor to our 2009 Scottish conference passed away yesterday. Andrew was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year and died at home (after a short stay at a local hospice) su...

Re: Eye lid stitching

Hi Anne, Yes, that member is me! Back when I had my second graft, it was decided that to give the eye the best chance, I had a donated stroma (middle bit) grafted in to my eye, and then it was kept closed with a nylon staple (the same sort that is often used in clothing!) to allow my eye to grow its...

Re: KC Group Survey

Thanks for the feedback, Andrew; I'll try to make the input box more obvious (it's a shame that it didn't appear at all when I was testing the survey, only once I'd made it "live"!

Re: KC Group Survey

Grant,

That's why I put the "Other" option there. You can enter both places in that box.
