Re: The eye, a few weeks on.

I had some pain in my cheekbone- kind of like sinus pain- but only for about first 10 days. not bruised at all. i presumesd it was from the drops. I can't see my stitches in the mirror, but it could be because my eyes are brown, and so there isn't much contrast. other people say they can see, and th...

Re: Post graft correction

My second opinion opthalmologist (in JHB) said that he has successfully restored 20/20 (6/6) vision to 3 or 4 patients vision using new laser technology (Wavefront?) which apparently adjusts/shaves the surface. I presume without making a flap (which is the 'traditional' Lasik method). I was of cours...

Re: photo of graft

Stange as it may seem, New Zealand is further away than Europe and more expensive to get to from here. A flight to London from Johannesburg is cheaper than a flight to Kenya or Nigeria and even sometimes Maputo (unless you can get a deal). Tiffendell in SA is okay- but hardly compares to the Alps. i...

Re: photo of graft

Thanks drMac. i agree at how suprising it is. my doctor definately reiterated the down side- which i am glad he did. the pain lasted longer than i thought, but wasn't as bad as i thought (except for the first few hours). and i REALLY didn't think i would be able to drive at 2 weeks. the brain is a w...

Re: A very quick update

Hi Amarpal, I had a lot of problems with my lenses popping out. especially the right eye, as they couldn't get a good fit. piggy backs were wonderful for me, and i have as a result been able to do many active things, which i wouldn't be able to do if i was worried about the lenses falling out all th...

Re: photo of graft

Thanks all. saw my doctor today- he says it is clearing well and still has a bit more to go. my vision has improved dramatically over the last 2 days, and the pain is ALL gone. I even drove to work today. I am ABSOLUTELY delighted!!! not even 2 weeks, and i feel fine.

Re: Warning-pitfalls of heathcare

In SA Medical Aid (insurance) is very common. Our public medical health system is in disarray and i would not be happy to rely on that. almost everyone who has a full time job has private medical insurance. its BIG business. however, we also have loopholes in the insurance. Luckily I have been invol...

Re: KC GRAFT

well he is lucky to have your support. he will need it. the guard i was given is a plastic thing that allows you to open your eye underneath as you need to. mine is fixed with tape, and for the first few days i used an oval cotton wool pad underneath in order to keep my eye closed because it felt be...

Re: KC GRAFT

i had a graft 10 days ago. all i can say is that it was better than i thought. try to stay calm before. ask lots of questions. i found it comforting to know exactly what they were going to do- how long it would take etc. i was under general, so once the drip went in, i don't remember anything. i had...
