Re: Questions about Sclerals
Your first question is an interesting one. When I wore regular RGP lenses I did find that immediately after taking them out I probably could not see as well compared to when I first put them in. I've been of scleral user many years and don't have the same problem. Sclerals are much more about fit th...

Re: Dry eyes
Apparently it used to be thought that dry eyes were simply caused by a lack of tear flow. Now we know that your tears actually have several components that need to be in balance. If the oily component is missing (which comes from the glands that typically get blocked with blepharitis) your tears eva...

Re: Sudocrem on contact lens?
The manufacturers of Sudocream do tell us what's in it https://www.sudocrem.co.uk/healthcare-professionals/what-is-sudocrem/ . It's mostly lanolin (wool fat) and zinc oxide (the white part). The product is designed primarily for treating nappy rash, I'm told with good results, but definitely not goo...

Re: New Scleral Lenses
Increasing 2 hours a week is a reasonable step. If after a few weeks you are still getting a mark on the sclera (white) of your eye you definitely need to go back to have the fit reviewed/adjusted. Try and get an appointment when you have had the lenses in for a few hours too.

Re: Inserting sclerals
I would echo all of the above, it's can be a frustrating experience at times but it's been by far the best lens I've ever had. Even after ~15 years of inserting sclerals I've had occasions where I've found myself in that cycle of struggling the more stressed and annoyed I got. I agree, that's what ...

Re: Inserting sclerals
Hi, It's really hard trying to give advice on a forum about how best to insert sclerals. I'll try. It is something that gets better in time. Do you get one large bubble or a series of small ones? It is possible that the fit of the lens is different and one lens has a larger gap between the lens and ...

Re: So, tried out some scleral lenses. A few questions...
There are lots of questions raised here, but as a long term scleral wearer, I'll try and cover some of my experiences. First, there is "getting used to them". There are two aspects to this - your sense of "feeling" the lenses and the actual comfort. If they don't settle down they...

Re: Corneal transplant
Hi, I had my first and only transplant just over a year ago. It will be helpful if I explain my background because everyone's situation is different. I had KC in both eyes for 30+ years but both had been managed with progressive refittings of different contact lenses over the years. The vision in my...

Re: Scleral wearers - Which saline do you use? - POLL
I have just bought some Coopervision preservative free from Vision Express, same price as Boots own make, and am wondering if anyone has any experience of using it with sclerals, the bottle just mentions soft lenses and rinsing things..I don't want a repeat of the Savers problem. So how was the Coo...

Re: Why do sclerals feel ok in one eye but aggravate the other??
My experience is that minor issues with discomfort settle if you leave the lens out for 24, preferably 48 hrs. Wear it for a short time, maybe half what you normally would and build the wearing time slowly again over a few days. If the discomfort returns it's time to return to your opthalmist. There...
