Re: First steps KC/DALK in UK

Hi again Daz Yes, definitely speak to your Job Centre Plus advisor and ask about local employers who promote their programmes to help get people with disabilities back in to work https://www.gov.uk/looking-for-work-if-disabled There is some support available (not enough in my view but that's another...

Re: Private Health Insurance

Hi Daz I'll do my best to give you an overview here -- this is a big subject. First off, if you and your family are EU citizens, you're entitled to free at the point of delivery healthcare through the National Health Service (NHS). So it could well be that you don't need to be concerned too much abo...

Re: Nhs appointment .. What do you think?

Just to add that my own experience of transitioning back into the NHS after private treatment also elicited a not entirely joined up response (and that is putting it politely). The clinical staff were fine -- once I got to actually have an appointment, that is. But trying to get back into a position...

Re: Please, recommend clinic / doctor for DALK?

Hi there Anastasia Sorry to hear your brother's in such a situation. Sourcing donor material isn't that difficult in the UK (and also mainland Europe too) but it must be even more daunting to have to travel for treatment outside your homeland. On a public website such as this, we tend not to give pe...

Re: Nice Weather

Air conditioning does help me actually, I don't get the grease from perspiration in my eyes so much. And so long as the filers are changed/cleaned, there's less dust in the air. But even then, I get to about 6 hours lens wear time and then simply have to take them out and managed with glasses as bes...

Re: any one know what this is?

Hi George It's a combination of the usual LASIK (but with a femtosecond laser to do the tissue changes) with crosslinking. None of which are actually new. What's new in this approach is the combination of these existing techniques in a new protocol. Promising, but as with so much else in the world o...

Re: bit the bullet

Good luck Lea ! For what it's worth, I think you're doing the right thing here. I not infrequently get the distinct impression that the healthcare system does not always by itself produce the best outcomes for us and we have to help it on it's way a bit... Or a lot. Fingers crossed for you. Cheers C...

Re: Hydrops

Hi Wanderer and welcome to the Forum ! Typically, an incidence of hydrops -- even if it seems quite severe -- is left to heal before any consideration of whether or not a graft is indicated is made by the ophthalmologist. There's several reasons for this approach including a) attempting a graft on a...

Re: Ectasia and Topographies

We've had talks given by clinicians (both ophthalmologists who might perform LASIK and similar procedures -- and optometrists who sometimes have to try and get lenses to fit post-LASIK ectasic corneas) and what seems to be emerging is that while topography is a useful aid in determining contra-indic...

Re: laser treatment after graft

Ha ! Unfortunately no, if I did I'd have conjured up one for myself :-)

Don't worry, you'll be fine, the surgery and aftercare for this procedure has come on a lot in the past twenty years and continues to improve.

Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Take care

Chris
