New lenses - and reading glasses

My eyes have remained fairly stable for several years with no changes to my contact lenses, although over the last year or so I have found the need for reading glasses for small print and in poor light. The current reading glasses are a cheap supermarket pair and I had promised myself a designer pai...

Re: Getting a busting headache

BurnTheAction, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems. If it is a corneal abrasion take the lens out and wait several days before trying again. Wearing the lens, even for short periods, will not help the abrasion and the eye will take longer to heal. I know it is tempting to wear a lens so you ca...

Re: Pregnancy with KC

My children are now teenagers but I did worry about how pregnancy and childbirth was going to affect my KC. I remember my biggest worry was that a pregnancy and childbirth book stated that contact lenses should be removed during labour and preferably before going to hospital. This really worried me ...

Re: Optometry student question??

Rosemary, Good question! I need an eye test because Moorfields only 'examine the front of the eye'. I know it seems ludicrous that I traipse all the way up to town to the top eye hospital and they only do half a job! The bits they don't do is the glaucoma check, examine the retina etc. and provide m...

Re: Optometry student question??

Hi Connor, I've also had experience of Hospital and High Street contact lens fittings. Here is my story: I've worn corneal contact lenses for 34 years - the first 15 years for vanity, myopia and possibly mild astigmatism. In 1990 I was told by an opticiam that my eyesight was 'up the spout'. That wa...

Re: Moorfields Clinic 4

I'll not be there until next April. A whole year between appointments! I'm so glad that I've lenses that are, comfortable, don't fall out, and give me good vision. If only getting to that stage didn't take so long! The lenses that fitted - but gave poor vision; or were comfortable with good vision a...

Re: IS THIS FOR REAL? CRAZY!

And smoking and contact lenses are not compatible.

I avoid smoky situations to stop smoking getting in my eyes. Which I guess others to do. So one could say that the wearing of contact lenses is a way of giving up smoking!

Re: Buying RGP Lenses online

Hi Snowball, I agree with Andrew you really need to be under the care of someone who can check the fit of the lens. I have had lenses made to the same prescription, but from different manufacturers, and the lens were not the same. One was comfortable, but the replacement was agony after a few days. ...

I also suffer from light sensitivity and have done so ever since I have worn contact lenses - years before I knew I had keratoconus. For me any pair of good quality sunglasses is sufficient and I live in them most of the summer. I'm frequently told, by friends and family, that I can't possibly need ...

I had an R engraved on my right lens and an L on my left and this is how I knew which was which - until I had my lenses repolished at my last visit and these markings were polished out! There is a very slight difference in tint so if I put them side by side I can tell which is which. If I do get the...
