Re: Guide to Submitting a Claim for PIP

I have my PIP assessment on Thursday with ATOS, grrrrr. I have a variety of illnesses on my claim, KC is one of them. I will let you know what happens when I get a decision from DWP. There is an easy answer to, "Well you can drive with lenses.". My reply will be, "So can you tell me h...

Re: What job do you do and how does keratoconus affect it?

I'm a former computer programmer/systems analyst. I find staring at computers all day difficult. Its hard to read lines of code, with ghosting all around it. I now drive armoured vans 3 days a week. That is very difficult in winter time when its dark early. All those light streaks from the damaged c...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

Thats the problem we have. Some people can cope and say they are not disadvantaged. Then theres the others who do have problems even when corrected. As long as we have this divide then the government and other bodies will always side with the non disadvantaged. What people need to start realising is...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

The Snellen test is a load of b****cks for KC. Its just a snap shot of your sight there and then. Even my lens fitter agrees, that in the real world, theres many variables that affect KC sight; lighting, contrast, environmental factors, humidity, eye dryness and wear time etc. I have already demonst...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

Sorry to hear that you had all that trouble in your private life because of your opinions. I was certainly not one of them. I value other peoples opinions, and understand the varying degrees of KC vision (from going thru them). I tend to go with the lowest common denominator, ie; if just 1 person ha...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

The differing point is that Myopia and Hyperopia are static conditions, that can be corrected simply with CLs or glasses. KC and other eye conditions are not static and are progressive medical conditions. Often requiring regular scans, tracking and custom made CLs. Even glasses can't correct the vis...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

I have always said and maintained that KC is a disability. To those that think not, or that don't have visual problems when corrected. Lucky you, can we swap eyes! Just because your fine, its a little narrow minded to think that others might not. With my corrected vision, and fit for driving, I stil...

Re: Gene therapy 'could be used to treat blindness'

Personally, I'd have more faith in stem cell impregnated dissolvable contact lenses to repair the damage to the cornea, than gene therapy.
