Re: Intacts & Informing work you have KC , afraid of losing

Even if you have c3r done, it will not cure keratoconus, CL's will still be needed. Id just stick with CL's on their own. Cross-linking will not 'cure' keratoconus in the sense that it won't reverse the damage already done, but it does stop the keratoconus from getting worse. The general consensus ...

Re: Recently diagnosed.....what can I expect???

Hi Gaz, Sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with KC, but welcome to the club! As you mention, getting CXL done is a priority. Keratoconus does usually stop progressing when you reach your mid-30s (but not always). As you're 31, I'd guess there's a reasonable chance of it progressing for a few more y...

Re: CXL people... how long was your UV light exposure?

I wear soft lenses Olly, but what you're mentioning is a different issue. Sometimes with harder lenses, they mould your eyes during the day so that when you take them out at night it takes a while for your eyes to adjust back to wearing glasses (this is called 'spectacle blur'). I've never had this ...

Re: CXL people... how long was your UV light exposure?

I'd say my vision was worse for the first 3 months after each CXL and then it settled back to where it was before the CXL, so hopefully over the next month things should get a bit better as your cornea recovers. In terms of prescriptions, it's difficult for me to say, as before the CXL I wore glasse...

Re: CXL people... how long was your UV light exposure?

I can't remember exactly how long the UV light exposure was for my cross-linking, but I do remember that for my 2nd eye a newer machine was used and the light exposure time was a bit shorter than for the first. Nearly 2 years on, and the KC in both eyes has stabilised, so that might offer some reass...

Re: Sclerals lens expectations

James, why were the lenses unsuccessful for you? They seemed to fit ok, it's just that the vision was a worse than what I had with kerasoft lenses. How the lens interacts with the eye is so complicated and depends on the size of the corneal cone, it's position and it's steepness amongst other facto...

Re: Sclerals lens expectations

I've tried them, but they didn't work for me and I got better vision from my Kerasofts. But every eye is different and it's always worth a try as they may work perfectly for you.

Re: Impact of welfare reforms

Very sorry to hear this Lou, clearly nobody should be put into that situation. Have you had your disability payments rejected? Or is it that the bedroom tax is taking too much out of your income? Are there any family members who can help with food? I know it's not right and you shouldn't have to rel...

Re: Lens Options

In that case, it's certainly worth a try. Hopefully, cross linking might make the fitting process a bit easier as well.

Re: Lens Options

Hi Kieran, I'm guessing you've tried unsuccessfully with Kerasoft lenses already? If so, cross-linking can help but it depends if / how much improvement you get. If you're lucky the cross-linking could flatten the cornea enough that Kerasoft lenses may fit better, but you probably won't know that fo...
