Re: BEST CONSULTANT FOR GRAFT

Hi Darran You do appear to achieve a good standard of BCVA with your contact lenses. Having said that you obviously have problems with the comfort. I have some lectures from last years BCLA Conference which discuss surgery,CXL,CL's. I can arrange for you to see them if you would like?Just PM me. You...

Re: Lasek after Intacs?

For me the question would not be LASEK after Intacs but LASEK for a KC Cornea. The healthy cornea is only 550um(approx 0.5mm!) thick and we know that it becomes thinner in KC.IMO why would anyone take a chance and reduce that thickness even further by carrying out LASEK?Especially when we do not kno...

SOLUTIONS USAGE

I am presently carrying out a small survey on solution usage which will hopefully reap benefits at the Conference in JUne. As such I would be most grateful if you could please post on this thread which solutions you use with your contact lenses. we are not interested in comments about how well they ...

Re: PRK or LASEK after CXL

I must say that I always thought any form of Laser surgery on the cornea was a non starter for KC Sufferers. I certainly wouldnt even consider laser surgery if I had KC. The risks are well documented and IMO far too high to take. there are many other options of contact lenses which are improving at ...

Re: NO GRAFT YESTERDAY - POSITIVE??

Ali In terms of prescription alone it does not appear to be the most complex of prescriptions. Much will depend on the topography and also your individual tolerance of different types of lenses. I am sure you will be well looked after at Sunderland.Certainly the Head of the Optometry Department is h...

Re: NO GRAFT YESTERDAY - POSITIVE??

Ali There can be no doubt that any improvement in vision is a very positive sign. I think also if you are able to achieve a good standard of vision with spectacles then that is another positive. To my mind much depends on your best corrected standard of vision both with spectacles and contact lenses...

Re: Dry eye

I must say I was hugely dissapointed to hear that very few of my colleagues in Optometric practice are actually treating/managing dry eye in their daily routines.I know as fact from speaking to pharmacists that they feel as though every second prescription they dispense on the NHS is for dry eyes! I...

Re: I have been diagnosed with hydrops

Hair Dryer treatment is commonly used in Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy to help reduce the corneal Oedema. I must say it is less commonly used in KC although in a case of Hydrops there is also severe oedema and in that case the hair dryer will have a similar effect in reducing fluid in the cornea. It has a...

Re: Trapped In The System

House Yes indeed you have had a tough time. I do think your case just goes to prove what most on here already know. 1.Continuity of care is paramount 2.The HES does have the flexibility required to treat a condition like KC in every case. 3.There very few resources where eyecare professionals can se...
