Re: Anyone Not Able to Wear Contact Lenses?
This was being discussed on another thread and over the weekend I really pushed friends and relatives to describe in detail their visin and to my surprise a number of them who wear glasses, contacts instead of glasses and those with 'normal' vision to soem extent under certain conditions see streaks...

Re: Question
When you get reffered to a hospital you can choose where you go so it may be that the hospital in you area wouldn't need to fund the treatment. Going back to the original post about starting University shortly after a graft, I did this 25 years ago before people had home PC's! My graft was in the Ju...
... ultimately I don't want to just 'settle' when there could be further advancements to be made. Am I chasing an impossible dream?
Possibly? Until you have tried all the options, how will you know? KC for some people is an ever changing condition either progressing...

Re: Piggybacking advice
But its probably more cost effective for the NHS to just do the corneal grafting instead. Its a sad state of affairs really :( A graft is a last resort on is only to try and make the cornea surface shape more a more regular surface to correct vision when everything else has failed. The recovery tim...

Re: Piggybacking advice
It is quite common for air conditioning and heating to run in parallel, the idea is when it is hot the heating thermostat switches the heating off and the air conditioning then chills the air so that the work area is at a comfortable temperature, usually 21 degrees centigrade. When the temperature i...

Re: Have you ever had a VDU risk assessment at work?
Good subject Steven. My employer sends out a self assessment every two years, but in my case because of a work related upper limb disorder and KC my review is annually and if anything changes, then a full 1:1 assessment is done. I think one reason the Display Screen Equipment Regulations aren't ofte...

Re: New to RGP's... a few questions
Soft lenses I find are far superior than RGP's. My only experience is of the Kerasoft brand, the Kerasoft II was an excellent lens and then I moved to the newer Kerasoft IC when that became available. Both are specialist soft lenses for KC and irregular corneas, so you always have this option if the...

Re: Piggybacking advice
Hospitals try and resit using anything other than RGP lenses because they are mass produced so cheap to make, partly because fitting kits can be reused. Plus a vast majority of optomotrists in hospitals only know how to fit an RGP lens. I basically bullied my hospital in to allowing me to try a soft...

Re: Piggybacking
Piggy backing is avoided because the thicker the lens, the less oxygen is transmitted to the cornea leaving it prone to oxygen starvation and drying out wich causes additional stress to an already stressed / damaged cornea. It is for this reason that many optoms don't like to prescribe soft lenses f...

Re: Piggybacking advice
Red eyes wearing contact lenses is a sign of poor oxygen transmission to the cornea and over wear. This is because modern soft lenses have a similar oxygen transmission rate as an RGP lens, so when you add an RGP lens on top it becomes a lot hard for oxygen to move across the lenses. Some older soft...
