Re: Private or NHS for Contact Lenses
Ah the EIGHT week wait for the appointment can be infuriating. Back in November I was prescribed some new lenses which were minor tweaks to the previous pair. I was amazed and delighted when the new lenses arrived a week later. However the right lens was a disappointment; it no longer had the vision...

How long have you worn/did you wear corneal lenses?
I've worn corneal lenses for 35 years. For the first 15 years I wore PMMA lenses and for the last 20 RGPs. I get good overall vision from these lenses but I'm aware that many people become intolerant to corneal RGPs after 20+ years, so after 35 years in hard or RGP lenses I'm trying to develop a 'Pl...

Re: Pinhole glasses
Hi Libby, I know exactly what you mean. You can watch TV – but walk across the room the whole world swims and caves in at the edges. I had exactly the same problem! However if you persevere the brain will make sense of it. In 1997 (having not worn glasses for 20 years) I ordered a pair of back-up gl...

Re: 'Part time partial sight'
Andrew, I know most people think of blind being not being able to see anything whereas many people who are registered blind can see something. But what are the definitions of blind and partially sighted? Without my lenses everything beyond two or three inches is blurred, but with glasses I get loads...

Re: 'Part time partial sight'
I'm certainly at opposite ends of the eye-chart. With lenses I see well, but without them I can't see the chart let alone read the first line. I agree with you, Loopy-Lou, that many people are not aware that there are some eye problems that can be helped with contact lenses and not with glasses. Sev...

Re: New Guy Saying Hi, question about contacts
Hi Alex, Welcome to the forum. I’ve worn contact lenses for 35 years. Initially for short-sightedness and a mild astigmatism but about 20 years ago it was discovered that I had an unusual astigmatism and my old hard lenses were changed to bespoke RGP corneal lenses. My initial motivation to wear con...

Re: Volunteers required for KeraSoft workshops
I've volunteered! I emailed Pauline on Wednesday evening and I had an acknowledgement yesterday so I'm justing waiting to see if I'm accepted. I've only ever had hard or RGP corneal lenses so to try a soft lens would be interesting. In fact it was when I asked to try soft lenses back in 1990 that my...

Re: New lenses - and reading glasses
I made 50 before presbyopia caused me a problem and I decided I needed longer arms or a pair of reading glasses. When my contact lenses are sorted I'll book an eye test and get a proper pair made up. I expect I'll go for varifocals as it is such a pain taking them on and off when shopping and readin...

Re: Options Available and what should i do
Hi Brad, Yes, it does take time to get a pair of lenses sorted. I'm currently in the process of having new lenses prescribed and the pair from my last appointment are not giving me the sight I expected. I've had four appointments since April and my next is in February. Hopefully this will be the fin...

Re: Social situations - avoid ? - thrive ?
The only thing I avoid is swimming. I'm not prepared to put goggles over my lenses - I fear they could get knocked and I'd lose the lenses. I do have some prescription goggles which give me some sight - but I'm still unable to recognise anyone who is more than 6 feet away so I hate the whole experie...
