Manchester KC Group

Correction! The thanks should be to Mike, who has volunteered to take this on! So I hope everyone in the Manchester area will give him their full support.

KC conference

Just to confirm what Gareth has just said. A notice and booking form for the conference has been posted (snail mail) to all KC Group members on our mailing list. If you're interested in coming but are not on our mailing list, please PM me with your postal address. We expect demand for places to be h...

Poster at Manchester

Hi Steven I'm not sure what MREH are doing with the KC Group posters - I've sent them to two different people, so there should be one up somewhere by now! I'll try to chase it up. And there is progress on a Manchester group. We now have the support of MREH Head of Optometry, and should have a date f...

so unfair

Michelle - nothing to add to Pat's excellent advice. What's happened to you is appalling so do get expert help. Employment advisors at RNIB should also be able to help and I'm sure their new Employment Retention Officer would be interested to hear of this (see my announcement of the conference he is...

strange visual phenomenon

I get migraines too, and what you describe does sound mighty like the visual disturbances I get at the beginning (used to be followed by headaches from hell, but now fortunately stops at the strange visual symptoms). But as Pat says, get it checked out. I'd never trust a web diagnosis! All the best ...

RNIB conference on employment retention

The new Employment Campaigns Officer at RNIB has contacted us about a conference he is organising for employers on 25th May about employment retention. He wants to achieve a statutory right for a person with sight loss to have the right to an assessment to evaluate their capacity to do work and then...

Genetic study into KC

Many of you will have read about the genetic study into KC that Moorfields have been doing for the last few years in a recent newsletter. Stephen Tuft, the consultant in charge of the study is looking for a few more 'sibling pairs' to take part in the study. What they are after is brothers and/or si...

trouble getting a referral

Good luck on Thursday Charlene! My grafts are over 20 yrs old now, and I know of people with grafts still going strong after 30 years, so it isn't a short term measure!

Intacs

sweet2sweet As far as I know, Moorfields aren't offering Intacs yet (maybe someone from Moorfields will correct me if I'm wrong). And the person on the forum who had Intacs fitted at St Thomas's also had it done privately. There are a few hospitals around the country that are doing Intacs on the NHS...

trouble getting a referral

Hi Charlene! I think any consultant would consider a graft to be a last resort, but it's not a question of age, but of how quickly KC progresses. For a few, it seems to progress very quickly and they may have a graft in their teens or early 20s, others will go years with contact lenses before they n...
