I have keratoconus

The trouble is, most of us who post here have had experience of KC progressing and tend to forget about all the people out there with mild KC in one or both eyes. A friend of mine was diagnosed more than 15yrs ago, prescribed contact lenses and has had virtually no change in prescription for all tho...

Question about head injuries and KC

Not a stupid question at all, and one that has been asked before on this forum when it produced several 'trauma' stories from members. But as KC is usually diagnosed in the teens or early 20s, it's hard to make any definite links. We had a talk at our 1st conference from the head of KC research in B...

OK - googling was much quicker than tackling my paperwork. http://www.payrollgiving.co.uk basically confirms the info I gave above. Employers with fewer than 500 employees can claim up to £500 for signing up to the scheme and the first £10 of any donations are then matched for the first 6 mont...

My problem is that I have temporarily (I hope) 'lost' the leaflet I had about this in my piles of KC stuff! Anyone good at filing?! But Payroll Giving is a way of giving to any charity of your choice by automatic deduction from your salary. And I'm pretty sure it's deducted before your taxable pay i...

Thanks for this Annmarie. A lot of people already Gift Aid their donations which means we get a tax refund on anything they give which provides extra income for us (you can download a Gift Aid form from the main site). Another painless way of donating is through Payroll Giving - most employers run t...

Action for the Blind

Sorry, Rob, that wasn't supposed to sound like a rebuke! It's always good to hear of positive experiences, particularly when we have several members whose employers aren't very enlightened. So I hope your post will encourage others to try all avenues to get what they need for the workplace. Sounds a...

Action for Blind People

Rob, these are the people we invited to give a talk at our 2003 conference (written up in our 2003 Conference report) and our Keratoconus at Work leaflet draws on their advice. I know other people on this forum have benefited from their help. As you say, despite their name, they deal with all levels...

Update

If I've understood what was said in one of the conference talks last year, PMD is not a synonym for KC, but a type of KC where the thinning is at the periphery or margin of the cornea, rather than being somewhere near the middle of the cornea which is more usual in KC.

Bifocal contact lenses

For some years now (since I started to get OLD) I've had a contact lens in one eye which gives me reading vision and a lens in the other eye which gives me distance vision. This works a treat - my brain just switches between eyes depending on whether I'm reading or looking at the scenery. The only d...
