Re: soft lesnses for keroctoconus

Stud There is no such thing as a stupid question! Yes you can use soft lenses. As munster says, UltraVision make KeraSoft lenses and you can also get Acuity and Soflex lenses. Additionally, as CXL tends to improve the general quality of vision over time, it may become possible to wear more "nor...

Re: Kerasoft Lenses

Nick, The ghosting can be a side effect from demoulding from the RGP lenses and may well subside as you finally settle down. If it does not resolve, then you may find that KeraSoft IC, the newest version of KeraSoft, may help to eliminate it. However, as always, each person is an individual case and...

Re: working as docotr with keratoconus

Hi George

Where did you get your KeraSoft lenses fitted? It is usual to get better than 5/10 vision with the lenses. There are also several types of KeraSoft lenses, if you really want to try soft lenses.

Re: Does the cornea change daily?

Hi munster,

OK, then its your eyes and not lenses. It actually might be complicated by the fact that the lens inside your eye is also trying to cope with your distorted cornea and is constantly refocussing.

I would certainly look into the possibility of CXL.

Re: Recent Diagonise.

Gabbie, Just to clarify the situation about Cross Linking. This is a very important break through in the treatment of keratoconus. Contact lenses only manage it. Munster is right in that it stops progression and does not cure it (i.e. put you back to the place where you were before your vision start...

Re: Just got first pair of glasses.

Hi Smudger, Ghosting is due to the KC and is why contact lenses are prescribed for the condition. It is caused by what is called "Higher Order Aberrations" which are distortions caused by the shape of the KC cornea. You may learn to ignore some of the ghosting after a while but you will pr...

Re: Does the cornea change daily?

Hi munster, You bring up a very important point about keratoconus and before I go on to explain in full, let me say right now, I have patients with the same issues, older than you, and CXL has resolved them. First: The KC cornea is around 60% softer than normal corneas. This means that any pressure ...

Re: CXL question help

Hi Loochiano Was this done at Moorfields or somewhere else? The centre where you had this done should have advised you about post op Contact Lens wear. You should contact them to ask about this as soon as possible. If you get no joy from that, I will give you some advice but I really would prefer yo...

Re: To Lynn

Hi Grim, Ahh right, I understand now. this does point up the difficulty of trying to advise via a forum! You are seeing a lens fitter soon, I think you said? Hopefully you will get some answers at that appointment. You are probably unlucky in that your CXL did not go as planned for some reason but a...

Re: Went for second opinion from other doc about my failed C

Hi Grim, Right, at last you have now got more information. First: Your treating doctor has NOT done the wrong thing by doing CXL at your age. The theory that keratoconus stops in the 30's is certainly not inversely true as many patients can start progressing at this age. Even if you are not actively...
