Re: Opthalmologist who understands KC and corneal stuff
Hi Anna As you may already know your GP needs to offer you a choice of 3-4 hospitals you can be referred to under "Choose & Book" system. My advice is to find out the hospitals on the list in your area, then check the individual hospital websites for information on their ophthalmologis...

Re: Soft Lenses / Keratoconus
Hi Chris Unfortunately we work in an imperfect system trying to do the best we can. The big unknown now is how things will change when the PCT s are scrapped and replaced with GP consortiums. Would things get better? May be, may be not. I guess it'll depend on how generous the budgets allocated to G...

Re: Soft Lenses / Keratoconus
Lynn I think we should move on from this as I think we are causing more confusion for everyone. When I graduated in 1982 I did my pre-registration year with a great guy called Tony Shephard who spent most of his professional life designing lenses for KC and other complex conditions. I worked with hi...

Re: Soft Lenses / Keratoconus
Hi Lynn Regarding your remark that Gareth got on excellently with his RGP s it'd be interesting to hear his comments as, reading his previous posts, I thought he had a lot of issues with RGP s prior to being fitted with KIC. I listened to Christina Keeney's lecture at last year's BCLA conference wit...

Re: Soft Lenses / Keratoconus
I fit soft lenses for KC regularly (both Kerasot/KIC and Acuity Soft K) and I know that can work exceptionally well, but, as Gareth says, no single lens type works for every patient and patients need to be offered the lens type most suited to their requirements. I am sure Lynn wont mind me saying th...

Re: Contact Lens Left/Right Confusion
I should point out that grey tint doesnt necessarily mean the lens is for Right eye! Both lenses could have been ordered grey or blue, but if one is grey and the other blue, it'd be reasonable to expect the grey to be for RE and blue for the LE.

Re: Contact Lens Left/Right Confusion
The lab making the lenses would supply whatever tint your practitioner has asked for whether it is Rose K or one of many other keratoconus designs. All I am saying is that normal convention in the industry is grey for RE, blue for LE, obviously best to check with your practitioner if in doubt.

Re: Contact Lens Left/Right Confusion
Hi George
Its common practice to supply grey for Right eye and blue for Left. The way to remember is there's letter R in "grey", L in "blue" ie gRey for RE, bLue for LE.
Hope this helps

Re: Difficulty with hard lens
Hi If you are ok once the lens is in you probably have an anxiety about having a foreign body in your eye, and should benefit from some sort of anti-anxiety therapy. I've had patients benefiting from hypnosis and counselling in the past. Its worth thinking about, you can discuss with your GP, but pr...

Re: Synergeyes ClearKone
When Synergeyes first introduced the ClearKone I was keen to try it and was impressed by the sheer simplicity of fitting it. However a number of patients have since reverted to their previous Synergeyes KC lenses and I tend to use ClearKone less now. The main problem is vision is often not as good d...
