Re: scleral lens help
Scotlens in Edinburgh do an 18mm mini scleral lens which can work work well. I've used it a few times with good results. They look less intimidating than the full sclerals! I am sure Scotlens could advise you the nearest fitter in your area. I am going to a seminar next week about the new ICD lens S...

Re: CXL; Is it expensive and unnecessary?
I note your comments Lynn and we are in agreement that crosslinking is worth serious consideration if there are signs of progression. However, I hope you are not suggesting that the patient I was referring to in my previous post in his late 40s with no evidence of progression over a 20 year period s...

Re: CXL; Is it expensive and unnecessary?
Gareth, I havent seen the original post, hence dont know the details. However, there's no doubt that crosslinking is very "fashionable" at present and one has to be careful. It appears to me that most KC sufferers seeing some corneal surgeons involved with CXL privately are recommended to ...

Re: What's start of the art with Gas Permeables?
Hi Russ, coming back to your original question about different types of gas permeables, I tend to use Acuity AK lenses made by Acuity Contact Lenses more than anything else. I find the main problem with Rose K is that its a very small lens (standard diameter is 8.70mm) and the size of the optic zone...

Re: going private
Hi Longmover I am sorry, but having the latest "toys" is not sufficient for good management of KC. The answer to your question, is, may be, but it all obviously depends on the quality of service you are currently getting from your NHS eye clinic. As others have said, you need someone with ...

Re: immunosuppression medication
If your son has severe atopic conjunctivitis topical ie eye drop immunosuppresants can be extremely helpful, and, being topical rather than systemic medication ie tablets, the side effects are much less of an issue. The cyclosporin drops Restasis are often not strong enough to be effective, and, Opt...

Re: Topography scans possible with deep set eyes?
Hi Russell and others In defence of the NHS clinic you attended, I need to say that, if they are using Medmont topographer, it can be extremely difficult to get measurements with very deep set eyes with this instrument. Most topographers work by projecting a target consisting of concentric rings ont...

Re: lens prescription ?
Hi Mikkey Rose K is quite a small lens hence not surprising it pops out easily in very steep curvatures. As I said before I sometimes get good results with larger lenses extrapolated from corneal lenses which are usually very stable and more comfortable than corneal lenses. I am sorry to hear about ...

Re: lens prescription ?
Hi Mikkey If you start needing lenses steeper than 5mm in radius of curvature it can start getting a bit tricky. In theory you can have steeper RGP lenses made, but sometimes stability can be a problem and lenses start popping out easily. I sometimes find large diameter RGP lenses can work well, typ...

Re: lens prescription ?
Hi Mikkey
The specifications you posted suggest fairly advanced KC. 5.50 is the radius of curvature of the lens which is quite steep. The radius typically ranges from 7.40 for very mild KC to around 5.00 for very steep, so, I am afraid 5.50 is nearer the steep end. I hope this helps.
