One month post graft

Hi all Just reporting in again after my one-month check-up. All still looking good apparently. No pain since the first few days, & less and less discomfort/tiredness. Most of the time I'm not really aware of it now. Still not much vision in that eye, though I did manage the top line of the chart...

Re: One week post graft

Artificial tears might be a good idea Andrew - I meant to ask my consultant if that sort of thing was OK to use. Anything I should be watching out for? Do I risk 'washing away' my medical eye drops if I use other drops too soon afterwards, or anything? Any brands you'd recommend?

One week post graft

Hi all Just to update you following my one-week check-up: Consultant seems happy - back to see him in 3 or 4 weeks. Still on 4 drops a day till then. All seeming too good to be true at the minute if I'm honest - no pain to speak of, just the occasional twinge and a bit of a tired, itchy, contact len...

Re: Graft done!

Thanks guys.

Lea, sorry to hear about all the hassles you've been having lately - sounds absolutely miserable. Hope they get you back on track with this next surgery.

Graft done!

Well, it's done (yesterday) and I'm back home. Noit quite what I expected - no real sign of the much-discussed light senstivity; I was expecting to be given some dark glasses but wasn't, and haven't really wanted any. Pretty sore now - don't know if it's the drops (which I only started today) or jus...

Re: Graft suddenly upon me!

Thanks all! Looks like I'm sorted on the practical side of things anyway - no problem suspending Uni registration for a month & wife's managed to get a few days off to look after me. Not dreading the op TOO much but really not looking forward to all the pain and/or hassle afterwards. I haven't e...

Graft suddenly upon me!

Got a phone call out of the blue this morning asking if I can come in to have my corneal graft done this Friday! I think there was someone else booked in but they're stuck overseas. So I've said yes - wouldn't seem right to let a perfectly good cornea end up in the bin for want of a recipient. Going...

Re: Next Scottish group meeting Guide dogs for the Blind

Oh, I feel guilty now! I don't mean to suggest for a moment that there's anything wrong with the topic of the meeting or with advertising it on this board; obviously you have to cater for all your members, whatever their level of visual impairment. I was just drawing attention to the fact that someo...

Re: Next Scottish group meeting Guide dogs for the Blind

Thanks everyone - I do appreciate the awkward position you're in. I suppose my view on how to strike the balance would be: just be equally upfront about what the worst-case scenarios are, and about how rare they are. You already do this in relation to corneal transplants, spelling out the percentage...

Re: Next Scottish group meeting Guide dogs for the Blind

Andrew - I appreciate that there's an ambiguity in the word 'blind' (totally blind vs. legally blind), but surely that's all the more reason to be 100% clear about the sense it's being used in. And surely when you say "KC does not cause blindness" *without* disambiguating the term, any san...
