10th Anniversary!

Good evening, 10 years ago last week I received my cornea transplant. Other than a couple of rejection attempts in the first 2-3 years things have been great with my eye. Although I haven't been around here for a while (years) I just wanted to update to say that all is well and many thanks for your ...

Re: Consultant basically tells me im stuck with lenses...

Interesting. I don't know the ins and outs of the first three procedures but my consultant went straight for the cornea transplant on the basis that my vision was so bad and the keratoconus so obvious he didn't even need to do a topography of the eye - it was visibly that obvious. To be fair I didn'...

Re: Anyone else in the same boat?

Ah right sounds like you are already on the ball there. BTW the railcard does allow you to go without a helper and still get the discount - so if you need it for hospital trips it works out as 3 trips for the price of 2. It is not something that I really need as I rarely use the train unless heading...

Re: Anyone else in the same boat?

Ahhh, thankfully I can still see enough to drive - however if a contrast test was a required driving visual component then I would not be driving either. Sorry to hear that things are not at the level of optimism that I had hoped, fingers crossed on the cataracts. I had one done in my grafted eye a ...

Re: Graft rejection episode advice please.

Keeping my own topic going! Well now the eye is in a slightly odd state where there is both inflamation and the cornea surface is drying out. The consultant commented that at this point it is difficult to say whether the inflammation is causing the dryness or vice versa and so cannot be certain whet...

Re: Anyone else in the same boat?

Hi, Oh what an utter pain, seems like you have had the brown end of the stick. Reading between the lines and from a friend's experience it sounds that your lack of vision has hit a certain threshold where the opthalmology people legally have to declare you as partially sighted. This happened to a fr...

Re: Graft rejection episode advice please.

Well eye casualty was fun at Ashford but then it always is, but then that is down to the students learning about eyes and nothing thrills me more than almost 20 minutes in front of a slit lamp! Anyhow it turns out that I am reacting badly to the Maxitrol eye drops and the outer epithelium layer of t...

Re: Graft rejection episode advice please.

Jez, Well I have had a night's sleep (for varying definitions of sleep), vision is definitely foggy - so that is me ringing the 'oh-dear-lets-get-the-eye-checked-out-hotline' number in about an hour's time. Definitely time to err on the side of caution. Thankfully I have either 15 mins or 40 mins to...

Graft rejection episode advice please.

Hello, long time no see for those of you who remember me and as always I reappear when things start to look exciting. On the whole things have been good since the graft 6 years ago and was finally discharged from the surgeon's care around a year ago, but I guess that the subject gives things away a ...
