Re: Removal Of Stitches

Hi Shabana, My experience of suture removal was very similar to Andrew's except I didn't have to remove any clothing or even my outdoor shoes! It was the same when I had the grafts done, which I had under local anaesthetic, so was conscious throughout. About the music - during my grafts I had the an...

Re: Success Story Scleral Lenses

I too have scleral lenses which have completely changed my life and enabled me to drive and work again. They are much more comfortable than the soft perms with which I was fitted after my grafts. It's just a shame you had to go so far and pay so much. These lenses are available, as Andrew says, on t...

I use steripod saline with sclerals. The hospital and optometrist know and approve. I get a prescription pre payment certificate because I also use drops, which makes it cheaper. The only reason I changed from Amidose, which I was given at Moorfields, was because the GP could not find Amidose on her...

I used Amidose from Moorfields, but don't go regularly enough to get supplies for the whole year. So asked GP to prescribe. She cannot prescribe Amidose, but gives me Steripod saline. I get an annual pre paid prescription card, which works out cheaper as I also use eye drops which require a monthly ...

Libby, I've had exactly the same experience. Was told after my grafts that I would not cope with glasses because of the prescription - astigmatism in oppposite planes in each eye. Now a wonderful optom in Oxford has made me both long distance and reading glasses with correction in the best eye only....

I always wear goggles to swim and then clean the lenses asap on coming out. Without lenses I wouldn't know which direction I was swimming in and might end up swimming out to sea, rather than to the shore! Several times after being on a windy beach, I have suffered a corneal abrasion, through getting...

Interesting about postcode lottery. I get saline on prescription but not Miraflow from the GP, but both on prescription from Moorfields. When I was at Kingston hospital I made the one off payment and then all lenses were free thereafter, the same as a previous post. Now I pay about £47 per lens. ...

Hi Anne, I was given the veterinary version of cyclosporin eye drops by Moorfields, but chose not to use them having read up about the immuno suppressant effect. Even eye drops can have a systemic effect. You have probably noticed that a few minutes after putting in eye drops you can often taste the...

Hi Claire, I sympathise. I had all my stitches in both eyes out in one go and it was VERY painful once the anaesthetic drops wore off. I was super photo phobic with tears streaming and lots of stinging on the first day. Much better the next day - just a bit sore. It was actually more painful than th...

Hi Busy Lizzy, I would suggest you don't do this. As a homeopath I have had several patients with severe reactions to this type of coil, because of the hormones it releases into your body. Two were so badly affected that they were back to the Doc begging for it to be removed within the week. I have ...
