Moorfields exceeds expectations - Attend Anywhere

I have a corneal graft that was done in November 2021 and all is generally all is well with it. So far I have had about 6 of the 18 sutures (stitches) removed, either to improve the vision or because they had become loose. Currently, for other reasons, my health is compromised and I need to isolate ...

Re: Sacleral lens have made my glasses prescription worse

The scleral lens is mainly there to 'fix' the distortion caused by the KC. If your optometrist recommends you have one then is because your KC is bad enough that they cannot improve your vision anymore with spectacles. Once the scleral lens is fitting well, the prescription that is added to that len...

Re: What to do when the hospital doesn't answer?

Have you tried the "Orders" team? They are in the room next to the waiting area for Clinic 4.

Re: Post Op Recovery

There are a couple of ways to tackle this. You could speak to your employers Occupational Health team (maybe part of HR). Alternatively have look at "working with KC" in particular the fully funded "Access to Work" scheme here https://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/index.php/access...

Re: Graft number 2

You will recall that it was decided at the time of the graft they would not insert the IOL lens but do that later. That second stage was completed 12 weeks to the day after the graft. The vision was good the following day and I have a scheduled review appointment in a week, but all feeling and looki...

Re: Full thickness cornea graft

I'm sure they won't rush to insert a lens. Many of us do have them (i have two). It really depends on how things heal internally and the various parts that would normally hold the lens in place. There are lot's of contact lens options too and getting some vision is going to help overall with balance...

Re: Full thickness cornea graft

Paula, it's good to get your update. Given time, the eye can settle down quite well. Even routine graft patients sometimes have to wait 9 months or more for the best outcome. Your husband has had a lot of internal surgery so it will take time. It's also good that he has adapted to the new situation ...

Re: contact lenses + cold sores

Exactly - couple of rounds of "Happy Birthday", plus maybe sanitiser, but don't get that in your eye either.

Re: contact lenses + cold sores

It would be safe to say you don't want a cold sore (herpes) in your eye. However your lens is not of itself going to cause this, it is really about treatment of the cold sore and good cross-infection control.

Re: Aged 43 and potentially need graft- terrified

A lot of us go through most of life with 'mild' KC that is successfully managed with RGP and later Scleral lenses. Mine started to progress again a little older than you and increasingly getting a good fit was more of a challenge for the optometrists and changes in fit and prescription became more f...
