Re: Intac after 8 weeks pain

I had INTACS fitted at RVH some years ago and didn’t really experience any post op pain. Recovery was swift but I have to say there was not much benefit which I knew was a possibility from the NICE report on them. I was due to have them removed some time later but on the morning of the operation the...

Re: HES vouchers.

Hi Ali Thanks again for your detailed explanation. I am not on any benefits and do not qualify for a GOS voucher. I think my hopes lay with an HES voucher which I had hoped was a statutory NHS entitlement once a complex eye condition treatable by a specialist scleral lens had been met. This belief w...

Re: HES vouchers.

Thanks Ali, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. My local hospital is no different from many others and exploring different areas in which to make cuts. Finally it seems they’ve got round to the Ophthalmology Department and you’re correct that Consultants don’t want to get involved in financial ...

Re: HES vouchers.

Thanks all for your replies. Ali thank you for your detailed explanation. I did try to investigate my entitlement to optical services and lenses but am not really any the wiser. As I understand it HES vouchers give a financial contribution to glasses and contact lenses if various conditions are met....

HES vouchers.

Are there any optoms or anyone that can explain entitlement to Hospital Eye Service vouchers? To give you briefly my background. I am now 66 and suffered from KC since my mid 40’s. Within that period I was occasionally given a voucher by the hospital Ophthalmologist to help towards the cost of RGP’s...

Re: Cross-linking and Kera ring implants

I had INTACS implanted some years ago by Mr Dayer at RVH after doing what you have done by reading guidance on NICE and scientific publications and can share my experience. The situation then was mixed. Some patients get benefit, some not and a few suffering side effects like halos. I didn’t get muc...

Re: Piggy back lens system for cataracts.

Sorry for the belated reply but thank you both. I was at the lecture by David Jory who spoke about the new introduction of soft contact lenses that could be inserted in front of the eye. I would be interested to know if this offers any advantage over the 'piggy back' system. From what I understand r...

Piggy back lens system for cataracts.

Hi I have KC which is worse in my right eye. I had a cararact initially in my left eye which was successfully treated with a toric lens implant. Now I have a cataract in my right eye which because of the higher degree of astigmatism have been advised by my specialist in East Grinstead to have it rem...

Re: East Midlands meeting

I too would like to add my thanks to Patricia for organising the meeting and to Patti for giving such an excellent and informative talk. It's only through increased knowledge and shared experiences can we, the patients, get better and more appropriate treatment. Great to meet you all too and sorry I...

Re: Kertatoconous, C3R and Intacs

It might not be luck but the skill of the surgeon a bit like going to the dentist-some hurt you some don't. Mine used a femtosecond laser to make the channel which I believe is better than a rotating dissector. Also remember that the rings come in different sizes depending on the degree of KC. Ask y...
