Re: Changing NHS clinic when you move
Thanks for your reply Mas-tech. Good to know that our son shouldn't get discharged from his current out-patient clinic when he moves next month. He's moving away for uni for a year and not sure where he'll end up after that so some continuity until he knows where he'll be living in the longer term w...

Re: Changing NHS clinic when you move
Thanks Anne We didn't know whether having to register at a new GP would force him to move NHS eye clinic so that's good to know - and yes we might get to see more of him that way too! If any other members have first hand experience of moving away from their NHS outpatient eye clinic but still going ...

Changing NHS clinic when you move
Hi Our son has KC and had CXL in both eyes 9 months ago. He recently received the letter for his first NHS clinic appointment which is next month (he was previously seen privately and has been referred to the same specialist's NHS clinic). If he was to move away from home later in the year to anothe...

Re: Recently Diagnosed teen that is very scared
Hi Our son was diagnosed with KC in November 2022 aged 20 years and had CXL almost immediately in both eyes. One eye is bad and basically has no usable vision but his other is pretty good so is maintaining his overall vision pretty well with prescription glasses. He's worn glasses since he was 18 mo...

Re: Nervous!!
Hi Elle Our son had CXL to both eyes in November 2022 in NZ. He didn't seem too nervous beforehand but he's the type that probably would try not to show it. I can't lie - the first 24 hours after the procedure and the local anaesthetic wore off was terrible. Try and have someone with you for the fir...

Re: Finding a KC specialist when newly arrived in UK
Thanks for your reply Anne. I was thinking he might need to get this first appointment done privately while waiting for an NHS appointment. We'll get him registered with a GP stat and get the ball rolling

Finding a KC specialist when newly arrived in UK
Hi there Our 20 year old son had bilateral corneal cross linking at the end of Nov 2021 in New Zealand. We move to UK next week and he needs a 3 month follow up appointment towards the end of February 2022. His private eye specialist in NZ has given us copies of his pre- and 1 month post-procedure s...

Re: Anybody had cross linking done at Moorfields please advice
Not had surgery at Moorefield, but our son has just had both eyes done at the same time in NZ where we're currently living. He had epi-off on his really bad right eye and epi-on on his better left eye. The first night he was in terrible pain but this had definitely improved by lunchtime the next day...

Re: Private vs nhs in Birmingham area
Hi Anne
Thanks for your reply. Yes I was wondering how much covid might have influenced waiting times both privately and on NHS. We're seeing the specialist in NZ again tomorrow so will hopefully get a clearer picture of things here then.
Many thanks

Private vs nhs in Birmingham area
Hi. Our son aged 20 years has just been diagnosed with KC in both eyes - one mild and the other much worse. We're currently living in NZ but planning to return to the Birmingham area in the next couple of months. The eye specialist here has recommended CXL for both eyes. We're wondering if it is bet...
