Re: Spare lenses - are they are luxury or a necessity?

If it's affordable I'd definitely recommend spare lenses. My RGP fell out while cycling back from work but due to a series of unfortunate events in my local hospital Eye department I was unable to get an appointment to sort a replacement lens. As my job was driving I had to try and wear an old RGP I...

Re: Grafts - good experiences?

9 weeks in after DALK: Recovery took around 8 weeks, the main problem was photophobia (never thought I'd be so happy to see an overcast day!) as the healing of my epithelium over my cornea was delayed due to a painful allergic reaction to preservatives in the eyedrops. A change to non - preservative...

Re: 10 years on.....

Rob - thanks for the upbeat post, it's too easy to find stories of corneal rejection on the net so it's good to hear a positive account. I'm just over 9 weeks post DALK and have just completed my 1st week back at work. Dexamethasone drops 6x daily and now lovely, lovely Hydra drops 4x daily. Sunglas...

Re: Post Graft queries

Thanks for the reply Anne. I have a pair of sunglasses that have proved invaluable, at least it's got a little cloudier recently! Saw my excellent Consultant at the QE who said the epithelium wasn't healing over the corneal surface as it should, hence the continuing eye soreness and photophobia. My ...

Post Graft queries

Hi, I had my corneal graft nearly 4 weeks ago. It's very slowly getting less sore, but is both eyes still seem fairly photosensitive even though only the left was done so sunglasses being worn a lot, especially for the short bursts of telly I can manage. I'm currently putting a combination of steroi...

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

The good news is the Q.E. has now employed at least one locum and is actively booking clinic appointments again. Whether my complaint had anything to do with this I don't know but it's good news at last. Bad news - Mr Beaver has sadly passed away. He was a fine and caring professional who looked aft...

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

Update: Official complaint sent last weekend. Had a call from QE this evening. They are currently bringing in Locum ops in the hope of rebooting the service. Apparently there was an unsuccessful attempt to get other hospitals to take current QE pts. Meantime no change, no lens, no appointment, possi...

Re: Driving standard UK

As someone who is having to give up a driving job due to loss of lens/eyesight I do sympathise with you however there seems no way around it. If the examiner on the day isn't satisfied that you can meet the eyesight requirement they will halt the test. However they are not going to measure out 20 me...

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

Just an update - I attended for my appointment at The Contact Lens Clinic who were very good, ran a battery of tests during which they informed me I also had mild Kera in my other eye as well. They fitted a semi-haptic schleral lens which felt great however they were unable improve my vision with th...
