Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

The good news is the Q.E. has now employed at least one locum and is actively booking clinic appointments again. Whether my complaint had anything to do with this I don't know but it's good news at last. Bad news - Mr Beaver has sadly passed away. He was a fine and caring professional who looked aft...

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

Update: Official complaint sent last weekend. Had a call from QE this evening. They are currently bringing in Locum ops in the hope of rebooting the service. Apparently there was an unsuccessful attempt to get other hospitals to take current QE pts. Meantime no change, no lens, no appointment, possi...

Re: Driving standard UK

As someone who is having to give up a driving job due to loss of lens/eyesight I do sympathise with you however there seems no way around it. If the examiner on the day isn't satisfied that you can meet the eyesight requirement they will halt the test. However they are not going to measure out 20 me...

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

Just an update - I attended for my appointment at The Contact Lens Clinic who were very good, ran a battery of tests during which they informed me I also had mild Kera in my other eye as well. They fitted a semi-haptic schleral lens which felt great however they were unable improve my vision with th...

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

Referral is at the moment the only option & as I said previously it seems the most effective way of doing this is via a new eye test via a high st optician leading to a fresh referral to a different hospital. Something the QE should be offering to do anyway. Private is a necessary short term mea...

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

No change at the Q.E. I recently phoned the new head of department and left a message to see if there had been any progress and guess what, I've heard nothing back whatsoever. Also my appointment for January was cancelled with no sign of a new one. Interestingly enough whilst at a Boots contact fit ...

Re: Vision with scleral lens

Could it be some pockets of trapped air underneath the lens causing the halos/ghosting?

Re: Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

Hi Natalienb, Like yourself I first got an inkling something was wrong when having to cancel my appointment in summer, the next one they offered me was January 2018. It is wrong when someone like yourself has to consider going private just in order to get seen, I feel they are forgetting about us, t...

Meltdown at the Q.E. Ophthalmology Dept

I'd be interested if there are any other forum members currently suffering from the fall out at the Q.E. hospital outpatient Ophthalmology department in Birmingham. The basis for that as far as I can work out is a dept reorganisation with a new head of dept. Unfortunately what this means is there is...
