Re: Too Sweet

Gosh ANdrew! - sorry to hear that; must have been a nasty piece of news to come home to. It doesn't entirely surprise me to hear that long term use of steroids can cause diabetes as well as all the others things they can cause (glaucoma, for example, or at least high eye pressure that puts one of ri...

Re: Question about post transplant/graft surgery

How long before I could ride again was one of the questions I asked pre-graft. The young woman I was talking to wasn't at all sure how to answer - and we agreed that "OK, it's not the riding that's the issue, it's the falling off bit I mustn't do" and was left to get on with it. In fact, t...

Re: Hydrops Concern

I think you are right to be concerned. It sounds odd to me. OK - I'm not a medic and I javent seen your eye n particular. But 1. I'm surprised you would have a hydrops and not know it - the world tends to go very misty (from foggy day look to a complete white out 2. why is anyone trying to graft you...

Re: How long did you wait for an eye?

I had clinic appointment in late Oct 2007 when decided to go for a graft, and doctor sat down at computer there and then, tapped away, said wait currently 3 months and booked it in 3 months to day! - though I was warned that if there was shrtage of donor corneas, I may get rung up and postponed. But...

Re: wearing sungasses

SOrry if this is a silly question but have you tried different types of sunglasses? And different shades? I swear by th epolarising ones to cut down the glare. SOme people seem to like th eUVA/UVB block types, or the reactolight photochromic ones. As for the shade - I normally waer the ordinary grey...

Re: Update

Glad the pressure's coming down and good luck with the stitches. As I understand it - the advantage of fitting sclerals soon post-graft is that, ecause they arch over the whole cornea with a tear reservoir behind, they will still go on doing so if/when the eye changes shape. SO the same lens can sti...

Re: Just when i thought some good was coming my way

Oh what a bummer!!!!! DO hope you get some better news soon. Cataracts (and glaucoma) from steroid ee drop use are some of the known risks of grafts,ut not ones that seem to be high on the list of warnings. (Nor, for that matter, is the possiiity that the grafted eye may prove lens-intolerant - I ha...

Re: Any similarities between KC'ers

Ali Akay sayshe sees a lot of Cambridhe university students with KC: That's interesting! - when I was at Oxford and going to the Radcliffe eye hosp in mad panics about hydrops and possible effect of imminent transplnat of degree course, I was the only student I ever knew with KC. ANd the consultant ...
