Re: Urgent CXL advice needed please
Hi, I have now had sclerals for a few years and I cannot recommend them enough, they have been a life saver. I used to wear RGPs but they irritated and dried my eyes out so much I had to use drops every 10 minutes, which was such a hindrance to normal life! As for the practicality, for me they are l...

Re: Is it this expensive for everyone?
Hi Gary, Echoing above posts, most monitoring is done by NHS clinics, which is free and then the standard cost per lens of £57. I currently wear scleral lenses, which can be thousands so this is a big big help! However, I did have to sort a set of glasses myself, those were not covered. The solution...

Re: Dry eyes and contact solution
Hi Jigs! I can very much sympathise with your dry eyes, I had huge issues with my RGPs. My eyes would get extremely dry, itchy and red - up to the point when I was putting in eye drops every 10 minutes. There was just no other way to wear the lenses for me. So I experimented a lot with different dro...

Re: Referral to Moorfields
Hey Libby, yes, I have KC and I have been both to the Ealing outreach clinic and the main clinic. At Ealing I saw a general eye specialist, who looked at the overall health of the eye etc (my eyes get very dry, which makes wearing RGP lenses extremely uncomfortable, so he was hoping to improve on th...

Re: Referral to Moorfields
Hey Libby, I was recently referred to Moorfields as well, I got the first appointment within 57 days, which I thought was really fast. Depending on which clinic you go to, it takes longer or shorter. I could have gone to a different outreach clinic within 52 days, but I thought 5 days waiting longer...

Re: newbie!
Hey Tina, that's brilliant news, very happy for your son! Definitely keep at it to get a referral for a specialist, it can't hurt, even if they say that currently the optometrist is the best to treat the KC, as the ophthalmologist can still monitor it and there is no delay should it get worse or he ...

Re: newbie!
Hey Tina, I hope the glasses are working well? My optician was the one who noticed something was odd with my eyes and she actually made the referral to go to a specialist at a hospital to get it checked out further. Her referral went to my GP, who then initiated it with the hospital, so both can get...

Re: Frustrated
Hey Paul, I am in a similar place to you, having been diagnosed last year and struggling with the contact lens fit. I am on my second pair and they still don't work correctly. I am being told that my cornea is not cone shaped, but wavy/bumpy, so more difficult to fit as well. The CL specialist can o...

Re: RGP lenses - problems
Hi GarethB, thank you for your reply and advice, I will make sure to ask the specialist about the Kerasoft IC lenses! I am able to wear the RGPs for quite a long time, up to 12 hours a day, but they are incredibly uncomfortable and dry and there is no way that I can keep this up for very long or all...
