FLAK vs PKP

I'm scheduled to have PKP next week, and have recently sought a second opinion from another doctor, who recommended her procedure, FLAK - basically using a laser to do the cutting portion of the surgery rather than a scalpel. It is popularly regarded that FLAK has a faster healing time with earlier,...

Re: Anyone had a cornea that failed a topography?

I'm really sorry to hear about that, I can definitely relate to the costs. I did finally find a doctor who had a more recent machine and they were able to get a complete scan of my cornea, so perhaps finding a really really really modern machine may help? Unfortunately this just brought more bad new...

Re: Anyone had a cornea that failed a topography?

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice and support. I'm going to find out what model of machine they have tomorrow, as well as going back in for another contact fitting. The second opinion doctor advised a transplant, my primary doctor believes that I'm fine in contacts, though I can't wear them out...

Anyone had a cornea that failed a topography?

I had corneal topography the other day whilst going for a second (second, second, second) opinion on all of this. They hadn't done one since last August, and said I was probably fine, but since I was a new patient, they'd do one anyways. My eyes have gotten much worse since then, much to my doctor's...

Re: Rapid Vision Changes and first RGPs

I have been using the Bausch and Lomb BioTrue solution with my lenses, apparently it is very similar to the natural tear fluid of the eye, and to date has caused the fewest episodes of lens-insertion keratitis. I occasionally use the Clear Care disinfecting solution, but I've noticed that it almost ...

Re: Advice needed asap thank you

Don't know if these are available in the UK, but in the US there is a brand of over-glasses sunglasses called "Cocoons" that do a pretty good job of filtering light. They make both polarized and non-polarized versions, and they're about $50 each - I have one of each type, polarized for out...

Re: Rapid Vision Changes and first RGPs

Chris - Unfortunately I'm very well insured under my parent's policy (the cap was raised to 27, so I'm still covered for awhile yet), but the difficulty is in even getting the insurance to deal with and accept the treatments as medically necessary - they will cover one set of contacts or glasses per...

Re: Rapid Vision Changes and first RGPs

Upon further research, the lenses that my doctor assured me were "hybrid" may in fact just be the regular thicker KC specialty soft variety. Regardless, both my optometrist and ophthalmologist have stated that the corneal abrasions are from the soft part of the lens, regardless of whether ...

Test.

I tried to post something earlier that was rather long, and I fear it's been lost.

Rapid Vision Changes and first RGPs

Hello all, I am new to the forum but certainly not new to KC. I was diagnosed 4 years ago at 17, although I was aware of degeneration in my left eye prior to diagnosis. I have been, for lack of a better term, lurking on the forum for awhile now as a guest, and unfortunately haven't seen anyone with ...
