Re: 48 hours without contacts in - How life is different
Laura Well done first of all; what a fantastic mind set you have. I expect you know [but in case you don't] you can get some allowances in taking your A level exams. My son has KC and took his A levels in the summer. He got large papers and extra time in the exams. He did not like the large papers -...

Re: 15 year old son newly diagnosed
Hi My son was diagnosed 9 months ago when he was 17yrs old and about to sit A levels. So I was in your shoes not long ago. I spent hours researching on the net, time well spent. I would suggest you look into having crosslinking [CXL] which will halt the progress of the condition, not make it better ...

Re: FOR ALL STUDENTS WITH KC
Hi Penelope Yours is a very timely post. I only discovered that my son [with KC] could be entitled to DSA by someone else posting a couple of months ago. My son had his interview for DSA on Friday and the assessor was really helpful. All the items you mention were discussed with him as well as trave...

Re: Cross Linking - my experience
Hi Nicky. There are many hard decisions to make about treatment but when I discussed having cross linking with my 18yr son who was diagnosed with KC last Christmas, his first response was that he wanted his 'good' eye done. It was not easy to find medics willing to treat an eye where the KC, in his ...

Re: Reading
Hi Space cadet
In your experience is someone with KC always recognised as 'disabled'. My son is going to uni next month, he has had both eyes treated with CXL. If he is registered within the uni as disabled; what benefits might he be entitled to?
Many thanks, Rose

Re: Reading
Hello Penelope Well done for getting to your second year. I can answer some of your questions and hopefully someone else can give some more answers. I use a keyboard kindle, which is still available. To turn pages you click on a button at the side/edge of the Kindle. It does save your place when you...

Re: Recent Diagonise.
Hi Gabbie Please look at the post I made this morning called 'Good News'. My son was diagnosed eight months ago aged 17 years. I hope my post might give you some encouragement. Cross-linking is certainly worth serious consideration. Not available on the NHS yet though. Please keep posting or asking ...

Good News!
Hello. :D Last Christmas my 17-year-old son was diagnosed with Keratoconus, although the consultant, for some reason, decided to only give us the name of conical cornea. She then went on to say I should not look it up on the Internet and worry myself. Fortunately I did go on to the Internet, discove...

Re: KC Contact lens specialists
Hi Liam. If I remember rightly I think that you have had CXL treatment - so I wonder if the person who did that could recommend a good optician experienced or specialising in KC. May be worth a try.
