Re: Second Graft

Hi Leon :D I was like you and did not truly understand the ins and outs of having a graft when I had both of mine done. Years later when I found this place, and other information on-line, I was quite taken aback to find out all the things that could have gone wrong, and was initially a bit angry at ...

Re: East Midlands meeting

I'll second the thanks to Patricia for organising everything (and for the lift back into the city centre afterwards). :D The talk was very interesting. Even though I no longer wear contact lenses it's good to have a better understanding of why I had such an awful time with them when I did wear them ...

Re: IS THIS FOR REAL? CRAZY!

Oh boy.

Before I left home both my parents were heavy smokers. Can't say it did much when my KC was in its early stages  other than irritate the heck out of me. :P

Re: Stitches Out

Hi Steve :D I had a continuous stitch in one graft and individual ones in the other. The continuous one was in my first graft and was taken out roughly eighteen months post graft. I don't recall any significant affect on my vision, just a sore eye for a few days, oh, and going back to putting drops ...

Re: sensitivity to flashing lights

Camera flashes are very painful for me too. :( They have ruined many a social occasion for me. :( It's yet another thing I find that non-KCers don't get and I often end up feeling like they don't believe me. :( Driving down a dappled lane is a nightmare. I don't drive, but if I find myself in that s...

Re: Might be some silly questions

Hi Amer :D One of my grafts is 16 years old, the other 12, and they are both still going strong. It often feels like I never get the same answer twice to any questions I have asked my doctors over the years but the general overall thought seems to be that the older a graft gets the less likely it is...

Re: which KC symptom that affects you the most?

At least, I have had mercifully few of those who say "Ewwwww, corneal transplant! I could never donate my corneas...." I must have had your share then as over the years I have had loads. Along with 'I could never have that done' type comments too. Yeah, right, like I had much of a choice ...

Re: which KC symptom that affects you the most?

Photophobia is the worst thing for me. The posts about people not understanding strikes a chord. A few weeks back we were at a family gathering. Most of the lighting at the house was via halogen bulbs (instant pain for me) so I hung out in the hallway where there was a tungsten bulb and kept my sung...
