‘Finding your own way to cope’: Conference 2003

The Keratoconus Group Second National Conference took place on Saturday 14 June at
the Charity Centre in London. The day proved a tremendous success. Once again President of the Group, Professor Roger Buckley opened the conference, which was attended by about 100 members from all over the country.

The focus this time was on how our members manage at school, college and work. The
discussion was entertaining, vibrant and informative. Look out for several ideas and
initiatives that came out of the day. The Group will be publishing a transcript of the day. See Sandi’s story which deal with some of the issues addressed at the conference; particularly: finding your own way to cope.

The theme of the 2003 National Conference was coping with keratoconus with the particular focus on young people and keratoconus. Teachers, students and parents were among those that participated in the day’s discussions. On the next few pages
one of the parents who attended with her daughter, recounts her own experience of coping with keratoconus.
