Hi All
I am going in for my second graft in 2 weeks. My first one was 10 years ago and was done privately. This time im getting it done under the NHS (full thickness), has anyone had one recently? will I be in overnight or out the same day, my admission states 23 hour admission (I have no idea what this means) when I had it done 10 years ago it was an overnight stay. Just trying to get myself prepared.
Thanks for your help in advance
Thanks
Vic

Re: Graft
Hi Vic,
My regraft was done as day surgery, so I was out the same day and I think that's the norm these days. The exceptions would be if the patient has a very long journey home and/or the operation is the last one of the day and it would be very late before you were discharged. But it might be as well to check what your hospital's policy on this is.
All the best for the big day!

Re: Graft
I had my graft redone last week (first graft was done 15 years ago).
I was In at 7:30, OP at 9:00, awake at 12:00 and discharged at 1:30! All going well so far. Been back to see the Consultant today who is happy with progress.
Good luck with your graft. X

Re: Graft
waw that was a fast discharge - glad all is going well
despite having been through a graft 10 years ago - and several other eye surgeries - the nerves are creeping in

Re: Graft
Yes that is discharge after a GA.
All still going well although the cornea is very swollen so I can't see much yet. Still, very early days.
I was very nervous as well, not really about the op
Itself more about the recovery and eventual outcome. I can't really remember how things progressed 15 years ago! I've had a lot of other ops inbetween (laser, implanted lens etc..) but I think it is the length of time involved in recovery and the risk of damaging the graft that make this very different for me. Only think that has not gone to plan in the very sunny weather we have had! Very inconsiderate!!
