Happy New Year one and all.
Who is this Matt Smith, I have never heard of him, but I do think he bears a very slight resemblance to David Tennant, especially around the eyes.

Re: Who is Who?
I always look forward to the arrival of a new doctor, although I am not really looking forward to the end of David Tennant's regime.
I had previously heard of William Hartnell (baddy in a crop of london police films), Patrick Troughton (teacher in Doctor Finlay's casebook), Jon Pertwee (star of the Home Service's 'Navy Lark'),Peter Davison (who had done so much that it is hard to list hgis achievements and David Tennant (Casanova and the son of an old friend) , but I had really never heard of any of the others who have flown the TARDIS.
These days they talk about the Doctor Who 'Brand', and it will be interesting to see how Mr Smith spins the role. Will he get on with Captain Jack? Who will be his assistant? Will the doctor's daughter reappear?
So many questions, and we don't see his first episode until 2010. Some specials this year still starring DT.

Re: Who is Who?
Andrew!!
Surely you must have heard of Tom Baker as the Doctor??????
The ig floppy hat, long knitted scarf and and bag of jelly babies always to hand.
ANd so much "THE" voice of Dr Who that the Dead Ringers brigade do him still (or did when I last heard them) - guy with a Tom Baker voice rings up a car parts company and asks for a spare part for the Tardis - or rings a pizza delivery outfit and asks for a pizza to be delivered to Gallifrey
Priceless - and "the" Dr Who voice.
I "grew up" on Jon Pertwee, though remember one series they did when the timelines got crossed an they had Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee all together. Probably saw more of Tom Baker than any of the others though. Remember when He stopped and Peter Davison took over - at the time he was "everyone's OTHER favourite vet".

Re: Who is Who?
yes, I had heard of Tom Baker as the Doctor, but I had never heard of him before he became the Doctor; so Mr smith begins with exactly the same advantage and or disadvantage as Mr Baker.
Well, it made sense to me, anyhow.

Makes perfect sens to me, Andrew! - I remember seeing Tristram the vet suddenly pretending to be Dr Who was decidedly odd!

I think Robert Preston should have been named as the next doctor
