Posting problems

We have been having a lot of problems with spam posting over the last few months, and it has kept the moderators really busy keeping the forums clear of spam.

To this end, we have tried various techniques in a vain attempt to stop the spammers - who almost always post from countries in the former communist countries, far east or South America.

Our latest effort - to work out the physical location of a user by their computer's IP address - has worked well to protect us from the spammers, but it unfortunately also managed to prevent several of our UK-based members from posting, too.

This is clearly not an acceptable situation, so I have now disabled this filtering software; we will have to do some more work to make it more reliable before we can think of re-introducing something similar.

So, if you have previously been blocked from posting, please accept my apologies, but things should be back to normal now.
