Oxygen is not a problem actually...not with modern RGP materials. However, what can be a problem is the sheer rigidity of the lenses. The CLEK study showed that RGP lenses can increase the risk of corneal scarring by 62% so you have to be really careful about the fitting. Also, with any Ortho K, once you stop doing it the cornea will revert to its normal shape.

The idea of doing it with CXL was that perhaps the cross linking would hold the shape change in place - but the Moorfields data as shown by Thomas H shows this really didn't hap[en.
