Nope, I didn't get any of these spams either.
Maybe the spammer has us sussed, Andrew. (For different reasons, I mean, I hasten to add!)

I'm not used to being discriminated against, but don't really mind under these circumstances :D

Please see the post in the announcement section as we have had one report that log in and password information was momentarily shown when the link was opened.

I did have a brief chat with Anne about this at the weekend and suggested this became a member only forum along the lines of others I am part of.

To gain access you neede to do the following:

1) Complete an online registration form where you must provide a vaild mailing address as well as e-mail address and return to the KC Group.

2) A membership card with a membership number is sent to the mailing address.

3) On recipt of the membership number you e-mail the forum admin using the registered e-mail and supply for example a part of your post code and the first and third digit of yout membership number. (These will only be known to you and the KC Group so maikng any information intercepted pretty meaningless).

4) Forum admin grant you access if all the information supplied matches.

Downside is that it would be hard for our overssees guests who find the forum usefull as the group funds are insufficient to send mailings oversees. Perhaps less of a problem for our US and Antipediand frineds as there are support groups in thsoe countries.

It sounds a bit harsh, somehow.
I'd be very sorry to see the forum become thus restricted - it has been very useful for people newly diagnosed to be able to pop in and post when they have just had a shock disgnosis and need a support group's support in a moment of shock.
And for pepole with problems cut off in all sorts of parts of the world.
Personally, I recon it would be a great shame to see that benefit and value cut off because of one spammer.
I do see there could be problems with security-breaching spam - but isn't there a better way??
Maybe the PM facility could be disabled until people have established themselves with some sensible forum posts? - so they could post forum messages (that any mod can see and delete) but not private messages the mods may not know are happening?

Rosemary,

This brings us to pre-moderation which some groups run despite being fully members only. For the first couple of months all posts are pre-moderated.

I have been in favour of pre-moderation for some time. With some other regulation of private messages, again for the first months after registration, I reckon we could cover the difficulties even without the delay in registration' that some forums apply.

I agree.

I offered at the last Committee meeting to look at strengthening the terms and conditions of Forum entry, in line with best practice of other charities.

Hi Guys

I got the Pm and my laptop has gone a nasty reddish pinky colour now instead of it's usual XP blue Norton can't find anything so not sure if I am infected or it's just the laptop getting tired and old. Any ideas?

Susan,
is your NOrton fully up-to-date? Might be an idea to check you've got all the latest upgrades installed.
Also, does it just look for viruses, or does it check for spyware, and other nasty things?
You could do worse than getting a second (or even third!) malware checking software and run them all in turn.
Doesn't sound quite right, does it? - nasty pinkish colour.
Rosemary
