dweezil1968, its easy to have a "knee jerk reaction" on this. If the fairy liquid is recommended by a highly regarded Optom to patients then that is between them, this is what was discussed.

Regarding having to lug around a lot of saline, how about using fresh tissues (I was told about this) to take of the excess of the cleaning solution after using it on the contact lens and then using saline to remove the rest, that way less saline needs to be on your person whilst traveling.

With using Tap water and then saline to rise of a contact lens after cleaning it with its cleaning solution, I would think the Tap water would need to be cleaned off again with cleaning solution to get it back sterile, and then finishing of by rinsing it with saline, which would defeat the object with any savings to be had.

you can buy handy travel sizes of saline, which are great for carrying around. I found some in Boots and they were ideal for holidays.
re washing up liquid and tap water, its a daft idea, possibly dangerous, and thats my opinion.

Its simple to lump it altogether, you are wrong to do that

Tap water is "daft" there is no questioning that, how much travel saline you can carry around depends on the duration of the vacation and the type of vacation your having

Do you think Moorfields, clinic 4, are daft ? do you run a clinic ? its where advice is given on the cleaning solutions talked about here, you are just pulling things out of thin air !

hang on there, i didnt do that, the posts above did, and besides- so what? 'wrong' am I? thats strong isn't it?

Tap water is "daft" there is no questioning that, how much travel saline you can carry around depends on the duration of the vacation and the type of vacation your having

And you point is? you can carry great big tanks of the stuff around with you if you like, I couldn't care less, I merely pointed out for those who may not have realised it that smaller bottles of saline are available, in answer to a point in a reply in the thread.

yes i do think they are daft.
no i do not run a clinic but I do have KC, and I do know that putting various questionable substances in your eyes either accidentally or on purpose can REALLY BL***Y HURT and I do not see how encouraging people to use a substance NOT DESIGNED for any use with the human eye- hell if you Google it there's tips on how to get it out of your eyes in emergencies!! - is a good idea!
i do not take chances with my eyes.
no surgeon or specialist has ever recommended this to me, but thye have recommended real solutions and brands over another. God! my surgeon must be Mr Backward and I thought he was a cutting edge sort of guy! Must get myself referred to Moorfields immediately.

I repeat I am entitled to my opinion, and I did not slag any one off- so cut the heavy handed abuse please! as for 'pulling things out of thin air'- what are you on about? nothing I said hasn't been said before, and I was commenting on a thread I had read, as I am entitled to do.
bullying me will not make me change my mind- Its a stupid and potentially dangerous thing to do, the cleaning that is.
I tell you what I will ask my surgeon what he thinks next time I go and if by some crazy chance he highly recommends I do not use proper solutions and use Fairy Liquid and tap water instead to clean my lens I will be back here right away to humbly apologise for daring to have an opinion at all.

right, am off to watch How Clean is Your House to see if they have any tips on contact lens cleaning- white vinegar anyone?

Quick Lens Care Tips from Acuvue:

* Always wash and rinse your hands thoroughly before you handle your lenses.
*
To avoid getting your lenses mixed up, always apply (or remove) your lenses, one at a time, in the same order.
*
Never use eye drops or solutions that aren’t specifically for contact lenses.
*
Don’t use saliva to try and wet or clean your lenses.
*
Never use tap water to clean, rinse or disinfect your lenses
*
Don’t sleep in your lenses (unless you wear lenses that are specifically designed for extended wear and your eye care professional has prescribed them for that wear schedule).
*
Clean, rinse and disinfect your lenses every time you remove them.
*
Keep all your solution bottles tightly capped when you’re not using them.
*
Don’t let the tip of solution bottles touch any surface (including your fingers, eyes or lenses).
*
Never use expired lens solutions.
*
Never re-use lens solutions.
*
Never swap lenses with someone else.
*
Rinse your lens case every day and let it air-dry.
*
Replace your lens case every three months (or more frequently).
*
Don’t let cosmetics like soap, makeup, moisturizers or sunscreen touch your lenses.
*
Never wear your lenses when you’re going to be around irritating fumes or vapors (paint, hairspray, oven cleaner, etc.)
*
Don’t swim or go in a hot tub while wearing your lenses.
* Do not wear your lenses if you are unwell
* Do not wear your lenses if your eyes are irritable, red or painful – seek advice from an eye care professional
* Attend for regular eye examinations and contact lens check-ups

YELLOW CARD

Posts that are personally abusive will be removed. I did kind of fear that this string might become characterized by the expression of strong views, and so (if you read her first post) did Rosemary.

I have suggested privately that one of the posts above might be edited by the author. Once that has been done, let's all stay calm and remember that the forum is for mutual support. :D

Well D, there is your non medical opinion and the world renowned well respected medical opinion of someone who knows from the oldest eye hospital in the world - there is only one I would trust out of both of them, thats my opinion

I agree Andrew.
KC itself by nature provokes strong reactions in people, those that have it, that is.
thanks

Oh dear: my little effort at mediation seems to have come to nothing!

As things are getting a little heated in this string, and as everything that needs to be said has probably now been said, I think I'll lock the topic.
