Specialist techniques in ocuplastic surgery offered include Mohs micrographic excision for eyelid tumour management, modern techniques for facial palsy rehabilitation, endoscopic DCR and modern orbital decompression techniques for thyroid eye disease. Gabriel! Hello there,

I had my graft done (DALK) at East Grinstead under Mr Daya two years ago and asked him to come to our last conference to discuss C3R and intacts. He is an excellent surgeon who always listens and gives very good advice which really helped me as I was so worried about having eye surgery despite being a nurse! It is cheaper to have your surgery done at East Grinstead centre for sight instead of London, but I get my follow up appointments in Daya's clinic in London.

The centre is really lovely, very clean and easy to find. There is limited parking I think but I was dropped off with my twin sister as you are not allowed to drive home alone or go on the train. The nurses are really nice and came when I needed some painkillers in the early morning. I stayed overnight and walked a short distance to the testing rooms the next morning to have the bandages removed and my vision checked.

Everything is fully explained to you and you get lots of paperwork with all the info you need!

The centre has a lot of equipment so that you can get assessed properly. My very first appointment was here where I had topography scans, pressure tests and a full check up to see if I was acceptable to have a graft. The meeting went really well and I got a chance to ask all the questions I had.

thanks to everyone for all the advice its really helping.i havent been sent through an appointment yet so when i do ill write back. Im not sure wot they are going to say because my eye sight has improved in my left eye and got worse in my right eye, and i cant tolerate the rgp lenses ther just to uncomfortable. I am going to the opticians where my sister works to speak to one of her work friends who also has the condition. please keep coming with the advice its really helpful. Gabrielaxxxxx

I went to the optiians at the hospital for a contact lens check and they said that I couldnt use any other lenses and that id have to perservere with the RGP lenses that i ve got at the moment. They also said that I had an inflammation on my bottom eyelids and that i had to use some hayfever drops to settle it down and that i cant wear my contaxt lenses for a week. so im not very happy. if anyone has any advice please let me no. gabrielaxx

Still catching up on posts after having been away.

In 2005 I had swollen eye lids which was due to contact lens wear and an alergic reaction I had to my lenses. At that time and even now RGP's are my only option for vision. Once the inflamation had gone, one lens just would not sit where it was meant to. Later after reading a post here I asked my optom about dry eyes and they did a test. I only just came into the normal category for tear production/quality. We then tried many eye drops that are freely available and I found Systane worked best, it gave me two hours lens wear and as long as I removed my lenses for a top up of eye drops I could wear lenses for a couple of hours again. Then I changed my diet to remove juice drinks, fizzy drinks, caffeine and such like. Now I only have two cups decaff coffee per day and drink at least 2 litres of water (nothing added to the water) along with whole fruit.

Over a couple of months I noticed a big improvement in lens comfort so only need eye drops twice per day, just before I put lenses in and a soon as I take my lenses out. I now get a straight minimum of 12 hours lens wear every day.

These might be worth discussing with your optom. I have also noticed an improvement in vision although no change in KC which has been stable for a couple years now.

Hi Gabriela,

I cannot give you any current opinion on QVH but you might like to know I had a graft done there over 27 years ago and it is still admired as a beautiful piece of work.
