Keratoconus: No, I don't suffer from KC

For Joanne with toddler

Postby Alice Blue » Mon 07 Feb 2005 7:04 pm

Jo,

Whilst I haven't got KC I have a H who has and a toddler.

You know what the op is like so know you will need help etc and what to avoid, I've thought of some tips for toddler managing since my H saw your post.

I don't know how old the toddler is or how heavy.

H avoided all lifting and boisterous play for 2 weeks post op. That means I had to lift toddler into high-chair, do nappies, lift into car-seat etc.

As you won't be driving the car-seat isn't an issue. In the other cases get your toddler as mobile as poss:

Walking upstairs and down without being carried.
Eating at adult table or toddler sized table with own chair rather than high-chair.
Sleeping in a bed rather than cot which he/she can climb into.
Changing nappies on mat on floor - with equipment upstairs and down to avoid stair issue.
Get some DIY safety specs, H wears them when he has contact with toddler and doesn't have his glasses on.

Hope that helps,

You know the other thing - keep the day-time nap so that you have a rest too.
Get H to have time off and maybe stay in hospital a little longer than necessary.

Watch the other things you normally lift which may be too heavy - toys, ironing board, washing-up bowl etc

Alice
