dilated pupils

Postby Sarah M » Sun 18 Feb 2007 11:36 pm

Noticed the other day that the pupil in my grafted eye looked like it had been attacked wth some cyclopentolate, was hugggggggge while the other one was normal looking.

Now everytime i look in the mirror its all i can see, one pupil bigger than the other. Does anyone else have this?

I can't say, in all honesty, that I have noticed. I'd be interested int he response of others.

Yup, I have one puil that to me looks bigger than the other and I put it down to the KC.

In the right eye it drags the graft out of shape and makes the puil look large.

The graft in the left eye is flatter and more normal and the pupil is smaller.

As I can see perfectly well with corrected vision this does not bother me.

Just out of interest Gareth, would a larger pupil mean that one would be more likely to need sunglasses?

Absolutly no idea. To be honest I do not think my pupils differ in size as such, just that the KC distorts the vies of the pupil giving the impression that it is larger.

oooh so im not the only freak out there

Its not really that noticable until you notice it, and then its all you can see.

Gareth, do u mean that instead of ur graft looking perfectly round, it looks a bit oval shaped at one side (not that it is)?

I will ask at my next appointment if im seeing things

Afetr 20 years neither of my grafts are perfectly round, the circumfrence wiggles all over the place. I think this is mainly down to when sutures were removed to control the astigmatism that the round disc they put in gets pulled all ways to get the best overall surface.

Only shows on a topography.

Ok I just had a look and one pupil does appear bigger!!!

My intacs eye seems to have a smaller pupil than the one i'm wearing the RGP in. Although it could be the lens magnifying it.

When someone else is awake I'll take the lens out and ask them to look.. You've sure started something now Sarah! lol

I don't have a graft or intacs and my left pupil is still bigger than the right one! - my left one is worse sight-wise, stronger keratoconus. I only noticed it recently, thought it was probably due to a dodgy brain.
