New guy: Perservative Free drops for Piggyback lenses?

Postby KC Deano » Mon 29 Aug 2016 7:49 pm

Hi folks, Dean, i'm 40 and from across the pond. Texas, USA. Originally from New Zealand. I'm a Kiwi with Cowboy boots.

I joined this group because it seemed to have the most google results and popped up a lot. I did not see many other US or larger KC groups, so thought i'd see how it goes. Forgive me if i am asking something that might be covered here before. I did do a search and look first. Don't judge my by Trump, lol.

Had KC for about 15 years now. Have had crosslinking procedure done and progression is holding.

I've been wearing RGP for many years, and recently was not able to tolerate them anymore and i was always losing them, popping out, etc. Now im on piggyback (soft + hard lenses) and life is MUCH easier. I wonder why i wasn't put into these long ago. Its more cumbersome to manage 4 lenses but much more comfortable. I've only recently been exposed to Kerasoft lenses, synergeyes, novakone, scleral as options, which i'd like to explore later as well.

I have been using Boston rewetting drops for years. I am also just learning about preservative free solutions and saline. i just ordered some Purilens Plus Saline - Unisol 4 Replacement, which i plan on using to clean my lenses after its been soaking in cleaner, and before putting in my eyes and also as a daily rewetting drop. My eyes always seem to burn and eyelids irritated perhaps by the opti-free soft contact lens solution.

Question: are there any good Preservative Free contact lens rewetting drops for both soft and hard lenses out there? or can i get by with the saline?
I've read about the hydrogen peroxide only system, but thinking i might be able to get by with a Saline wash after my nightly disinfecting soak. Not sure if the same product is available in US/UK but worth a shot. Looking to use some products that are gentlier on my eyes. I tend to have bad seasonal allergies as well, so hoping preservative free might be my saving grace. I've been looking at these: http://www.optiqueofdenver.com/2014/02/ ... ct-lenses/ and these: http://www.eyedolatryblog.com/2016/01/u ... -best.html

Also anyone gone from piggyback to Synergeyes? any pros/cons?

Thanks for welcoming me. Haven't had anyone in my personal life that has KC, so i sort of feel at home here already.
Dean

Hi Dean,

Welcome to the forum.

I also piggyback my RGPs with soft lenses and I find that piggybacking works well for me.

Fortunately I rarely need to re-wet my lenses during the day. If I do I either remove the RGP lenses and re-wet them with Boston conditioner or saline, or if it's late in the day I remove my lenses and wear my glasses.

Lia

Thank you,

Heres what i found after a lot of research

Rinsing my lenses in the morning with preservative free saline:
Purilens Plus Saline - Unisol 4 Replacement
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DG ... UTF8&psc=1

i've found saline alone does not lubricate nought

Best daily rewetting drops. These are for both soft and hard contacts, so i don't need to take them out
Thera Tears Contact Lens Comfort Drops
preservative free
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJ ... =UTF8&th=1

Also i have found Blink Contacts work well
