Eye drops after CXL

Postby Emma_Jayne » Wed 10 Aug 2016 1:38 pm

I had CXL last Friday and gave been getting on fine except for the eye drops every time I take them I can taste them in the back of my throat and it makes me sick. Is this normal? What can I do to stop it?

In theory, eye drops should stay in the eye rather than going down the throat. But I remember being conscious of swallowing them when I first had drops after surgery many years ago (though it didn't make me sick). These days, the drops do seem to stay in my eye, so maybe I've just got better at putting them in! If you google 'putting in eye drops' you'll find several videos on YouTube demonstrating the correct technique.
Are you just having to put one drop in or do you have several different drops? If you're on more than one, it's also recommended to leave a few minutes between them.
Hope that helps.

It's completely normal. Tastes ugly though. Mind you I had the epithelium-off version of CXL in '08 so I was worried more about the pain
