Compression suture

Postby eye16 » Sun 10 Jul 2016 11:12 pm

Hi all,

Background:
At 16 diagnosed with keratoconus
At 27 - had full thickness transplant.
At 29 (in Jan 2016) had relaxing incisors.

Now in sept I will be having sutures back in my eye just the one or two.

I am quite apprehensive about this as last time I had stitches in my eye I was under GA.

I am from London and will be getting it done at moorfields.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this operation done before and was it painful? Will they sedate me or just topical aneasthetic? What is recovery time etc?

Let's just say I'm not looking forward to this!

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Reena,
The only time I've been restitched it was the whole lot that needed doing so that was under GA. But I have had sutures removed under local anaesthetic and I don't imagine that putting one or two sutures in is much different to that. You probably could ask for sedation as well if you'd be happier with to have that as well as the local. After stitch removal, the eye is a bit sore once the anaesthetic has worn off (several hours later) but nothing that a few painkillers can't take care of.
All the best and let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your reply.
I've had all my sutures removed which wasn't pleasant to say the least. First half were taken out rough which lead to rejection. But nevertheless the graft is fine now. They are not happy with the shape the graft has taken after the relaxing incisors hence having this compression suture procedure.
I will kept it posted and thanks again for your response.
Reena
