Hello Guys sorry i haven't been in contact for a while, been sorting out a disabilities support grant. unfortunatlyI was first regected so now luckily after a snotty letter and a few more from my lecturers and GP I've got an assessment next monday. So I'm at uni now, and thank god for the GPR lenses, went one day with my glasses on, couldn't even find then screen let alone all the words on it. So don't think i'll be doing that again in a hurry. was just wondering that, I've had a flu jab last week at uni, but no where near as yet having or have had a graft, the below discussion doesn't effect me does it?

Cheers Lauraxx

I was diagnosed with Keratoconus 18 months ago and since then have encoutered several problems, particularly with glare from lights. My main problem however is that being my line of work is a typesetter at a local newspaper I have been unable to receive any help with the cost of contact lenses through the company and my prescription has changed three times in this period.
Has anyone out there had a similar problem - my company will only assist with the cost of lenses/glasses if they are specifically for use with a VDU.
As I am sure you are all probably aware this is a condition that affects everyday life and we really need RGPs to be able to work at all.
Has anyone had the same problems as I am encoutering and how if at all did they approach the matter

I really think that your company ought to help with the cost of your lenses, as they are necessary for you to work comfortably at your VDU. You can probably also claim some tax relief on the part the cost of your lenses that you have to carry.

As to glare (both from the VDU and other light sources) I think that lots of people have found that moving to a flat panel sort of screen has helped with this at work ... we have all had to adapt to our own coping strategies for environmental glare. Some wear sun glasses.

All the best

Hello. Can anyone tell me if there is a contact lens company that can get u RGP lenses within 2weeks of u being seen. I've had keratoconnus for about 2yrs and recently broke one of my lenses. The contact lens clinic i went to said i would be 4-6weeks. As u can imagine its really hard with just my glasses.

I have recently been diagnosed with keratoconus, after seeing a specialist because my prescription altered dramatically in a three month period.
I now get constant headaches and find bright lights difficult to tolerate - am I alone in suffering from headaches or is this a common symptom.
My RGPs seem fine and my vision has improved dramatically since wearing them so the headaches do not seem to be down to eye strain.

Dear Andrew

Thank you so much for your good wishes. My email has been out of action for some time so now that it's been repaired, I have 16 messages awaiting.
I really don't know why I worried so much. The op was a breeze and am going back for a check up tomorrow. I will keep you informed of my progress.
Thanks again.

Well, here I am two weeks later and you are right - it was a piece of cake. I didn't mind having the anaesthetic at all and the next minute (2 and a half hours later) I was awake and asking for a drink and something to eat.
I need to go back to the hospital tomorrow as I have a high pressure reading in my eye and surprisingly, I feel sick all the time but I'm putting it down to the Diamox tablets I had to take for 5 days, although I finished those on Saturday.

Thank you for your positive thoughts and will keep you posted of my progress.

Brian

Thank you for your wise words. The op went well - it seemed like a breeze really. Complications have set in - I still cannot open my eye properly - doc says it's not healing as quickly as it should be and there is a high pressure reading but I've taken tablets and drops for this which has eased the headaches.

I'm going back to the hospital tomorrow so I'll let you know how things are going. Prior to the op the nurse told me the stitches would dissolve, however, just as I was signing the consent form, the doc said they would have to be taken out in 12-18 months probably in about 4 blocks. I warned him he mustn't come near me with a needle - ha ha. He assured me I could be asleep if it was an issue for me. Bless him.

Thanks again Brian and I'll keep you informed.

I am pleased that your graft went well, your input will reassure others on the link waiting for theirs.
I to had raised pressure in my left eye after the graft and also had to take the same tablets, they made me feel rotten for a week but reduced the pressure to a safe level, so your reaction seems normal. Having stitches removed is a breeze and they don't use needles just a slight nick of the stitch then its pulled out with tweezers, they put drops in so you cant feel a thing, the hard part is keeping still so don't worry about them. I had one removed 6 weeks ago and didn't know he had done it!!
Good luck keep us posted.
