Hello
I suffer from Keratoconus and I have done crosslinking on both eyes 1 year ago. My vision has improved but I wish to implant ICL lenses in both eyes (ICL = Implantable Collamer Lens) so that I can see even better.
With glasses I can see 50-60% and if I am going to use ICL then I would wish that my vision will be at least 80%. I would like to know if any persons here have ICLs implanted and how well they see? Is this something that you would recommend?
Results after ICL operation for Keratoconus patients?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. There was a similar question asked on the Frequently Asked Questions board a few weeks ago which unfortunately didn't get many replies. Hopefully your question will as the General Discussion board is read by more people.
I've met one person who has had lenses implanted, but if I remember correctly, he had a problem with cataracts so this was the reason for the IOLs. He was delighted with the operation because he no longer needed to wear contact lenses although I think he still needed glasses for reading.
I've thought about ICLs/IOLs but that is as far as it got. Although ICLs can be used for astigmatism I believe that the results for the irregular astigmatism of keratoconus are less predictable. From what I have read I believe that they would give me a reasonable standard of vision but because there is this unpredictability, and while contact lenses give me the sight I need, I have not investigated whether ICLs would be beneficial to me.
If I were to need surgery for cataracts, or I could no longer wear contact lenses, then yes I would consider them.
I pleased to read that CXL has been a success for you. As you wish to improve you vision further it is worth looking at all options, glasses, contact lenses and ICLs.

Re: Results after ICL operation for Keratoconus patients?
Hi there! I have keratoconus and three years sgo I had a partial cornea transplant....
on a whim I went to a eye hosoital to discuss my options and they mentioned icl (id never even heard of it!)
So on July the 14th 2016, i had icl done on mybr right eye!
It's only been 12 days, I'm not sure if the sight I have will improve or not....generally I am very happy....it's wonderful to wake up and not have to wear contacts or heavy/thick glasses that alter the size of my eyes! It's fab watching tv with naked
eyes! My doctor says I'm seeing at 80%.
But i saw better with my glasses and I have a feeling this is as good as it gets....also I have TOTALLY lost my near vision. ..I can't read a magazine. .I now need reading glasses (it's strange spending 18€ on glasses as opposed to 450+€!) It's also annoying that with my icl i can't read ANYTHING that i bring right close to my eye (a trick i used to rely on)
I cant wait to operate the other eye (it's a question of money ) for now in the other eye I'm wearing my soft c.l....but with nothing i see well enough to go shopping and socialise (looking people in the eye! ) which is priceless. ...

Hi Mandy,
Welcome to the forum.
It was good to read about your experience with ICLs - it must great to see without glasses or contact lenses.
