My KC experience - I feel cured

Postby marenglen » Tue 12 Nov 2013 1:13 pm

Hey guys,
I just wanted to share my KC experience.
I was diagnosed in 2007 when I was in high school. Initially I was in the process of a denial and just kept telling myself that things will just get better. Unfortunately, they got worse. In 2010 I had Crosslinking in Berlin. KC became stable but my left eye was too bad already. In 2011 (still at age 20) I decided I cannot tolerate RGP and got a transplant in my left eye. I had the transplant in New York City. They used the latest possible technology - DALK + Intralase, so that the incisions were made by the laser and not by the surgeon`s hand. This greatly reduced my astigmatism post op. 6months after surgery my vision was 20/30 with spectacles and I was seeing part of the 20/25 line. The problem was that the glass was too thick. The doctor did LASIK to reduce astigmatism and what a success it was. Post lasik, my vision in left eye is 20/40 uncorrected and with glass it is 20/20 ( I even saw half the letters from the 20/15 line !!)
As for the right eye, crosslinking did a great job in stabilizing it. However, I wanted a further improvement and had INTACS in Beverly Hills, CA. My uncorrected vision in this eye went from 20/70 to 20/40 overnight. My vision with glass is 20/30.
SO basically, uncorrected I am now 20/40 and with glasses I am respectively at 20/20 and 20/30. I only wear glasses when I have to do huge readings (I am a college student) and when I have to do continuous work in front of the PC. I also have Kerasoft IC lenses, which correct my vision to the same degree as my glasses. I wear the lenses when playing sports.
All my treatments, traveling etc cost like $40,000 but I feel cured. There is hope. Good luck.
